New guy with a HID question

Hello to all Jeep fans out there,
This is a great forum and I have a lot of catching up to do here. I have searched this forum about my issue and could not find my answer, so I am hoping one of you can shed some light:
I am wondering if one can buy both left and right OEM headlamp assemblies with HID and replace the OEM non HID headlamps?
I looked into various Xenon kits and I really do not want to go that route as I like the OEM HID lights. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers to all and thanks in advance....

Re: New guy with a HID question

I forgot to mention that my Jeep is a 2011 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4.
Thanks...

Re: New guy with a HID question

Hello.
Not really sure about WK, but in my other makes-yes, it is just a matter of buying whole assembly that comes with the ballast/igniter. The thing is.... OEM ones are prohibitively expensive like 2k for the set... used parts might be an option or a factory aftermarket, but still it is not cheap. additionally i know my HID have auto leveling thing, so not sure if it is all contained in the head light housing.

Re: New guy with a HID question

There might be some electrical issues. Pretty sure the draw on the HIDs is quite bit larger than halogens. Not sure how the fuses are setup in the WK2.

Re: New guy with a HID question

Yes, but you need the entire assembly, and the ballast. There will be no electrical issues since most HID's are rated at 35W vs. Halogen Bulbs at 55W. The HID's emit about three times more lumens (light output) due to (stating the obvious) HID technology.

Re: New guy with a HID question

Ive taken these lights out...the headlight assemblies contain EVERYTHING, including all the electronics like ballasts, igniter, bulb, and auto-leveling stuff. Only issue you might have is the plug on the back of the headlight assembly might not work with a non-HID spec'd truck.

I feel like the plugs SHOULD be the same...but I dont have access to a non-HID spec'd GC.

Re: New guy with a HID question

Isn't there a HID level controller module under the bumper somewhere? and possibly some ECU setting that needs to be changed? I think the module takes input from suspension height sensors and tells the headlight motor where the HID should be aiming.
