New Owner with a Question About Side Steps

I just took delivery of my Overland yesterday, and so far I love it. I traded my 2009 BMW M3, so it's quite a change for me.

The first thing I did when I got home from the dealer was remove the side steps. Does anyone know if I need to get plugs for the three large holes where the mounting brackets attached? If so, what's the part number?

Thanks!

Congrats on the new JGCO. Did you not like the look of the side steps?

Yeah, I prefer a clean look, and with other cars I've found they just get in the way for me. I end up stepping over them, often getting my pants dirty in the process.

So I've got a set of like-new side steps for sale

Also, I snapped a quick picture:

Re: New Owner with a Question About Side Steps

Are they the chrome ones or black ones?

I have black, want to find some chrome ones.

Re: New Owner with a Question About Side Steps

I dont believe you need to plug the holes, if I remember correctly when I installed mine almost two years ago those pieces just popped out but didn't seem to do much of anything.

That could be, but why would Jeep put them there? I figured they kept water out, but maybe it's not necessary.

Re: New Owner with a Question About Side Steps

After several attempts, I finally got some replacement plugs from my local dealer. The parts catalog doesn't list them, and two dealers told me there are no plugs there (despite the fact that you can plainly see them on new cars without steps). I finally spoke to the guy who installs the side steps for the dealer, and he had some extra plugs sitting around that he gave to me. They are there to keep water out, although I don't know how critical they are. I still don't have a part number.

Re: New Owner with a Question About Side Steps

Where are you located? I am interested in the steps, but shipping would be a PITA.

I'm in WA, and I'm guessing that shipping would indeed be expensive. They are fairly light, but the box would be huge.
