New to these Jeep options, questions.

So while sitting in our new jeep trying to charge our phones after three days of no power from Hurricane Matthew I noticed some thing I'm not use to.

First, is there a way to turn off the lights at night while the jeep is running? I just wanted to sit in the dark and charge since every light in the neighborhood was out but I couldn't seem to find a way to turn them off.

Our other vehicles with auto lights let you turn the switch counter clockwise and the lights will go out.

Second, the auto high beams. Do they only come on after a certain speed? I was driving around trying to look at the flood damage and while stopped I can't use the high beams. But after I start driving they come on, and the auto high beam feature works flawlessly which I'm happy to report. Just wish I could use the high beams while stopped. I guess I never tried pulling the lever to me and hold it.

Are these issues pretty much standard on Jeeps?

You can turn the knob clockwise to the "O" position to turn the headlights off however, the DRLs will still be on (the LED liner on the headlights). To disable that you'll have to find the option under apps/settings.

I've found the auto high beam to activate while at a certain speed and when there is no surrounding light. I guess to avoid blinding other oncoming drivers. It also activates when it's dark and there's a curve, regardless of the speed.

I'd like to know this too. Not only are the interior lights on, but the dash and uconnect screen are a full brightness. I fiddled with everything I could think of and came up empty. I was camping and had to sleep in the jeep it was so cold.

How the heck are you supposed to stare at stars when the dang interior lights are on. I could get the exterior one's off, but not the interior lights.

Hmm.. Were you in park or drive? I swear I can turn mine on and off as needed in drive. The auto highs, i thought, were meant to turn on or off with oncoming traffic. There's a sensor in the mirror housing, i think, that reads the oncoming light and turns the highs off. Then back on automatically when there's no oncoming traffic.

Re: New to these Jeep options, questions.

So I figured out what I was doing wrong with the high beams.

If you have our light selector set to Auto (like ours always is), then the high beams only come on if you go over a certain speed and there is no lights in front of the jeep coming at you.

But if you turn the light selector all the way to "on" then you can turn on your high beams day or night. The auto high's don't work with this setting.

I'm learning!
