I literally just picked mine up from getting tinted today. I did 15% in the front and then 30% to cover the rear windows. I think its perfect. Just dark enough to provide privacy and sun protection but light enough to still see out with no issue (check your local laws).
I dont remember what brand it was. A legitimate tint shop will have a variety. I just went with the best they had. If youre going to make an investment to buy the vehicle, dont skimp on the add ons.
I have used Formula One or Lumar tint exclusively. Found they have the best heat resistance, no fading, no interference. My 14 JGC Overland has Formula One ceramic all the way around and a product called Clear Blue on the windshield and panoramic sun roof. My car doesn't even get that hot in the summer. Did I mention I live outside of Phoenix? You can touch the dash after sitting out for hours. Pretty amazing testament.
Not much to ask really. I would just have them use whatever quality film matches the oem rear tint the closest. My guy uses 20% Llumar film non/ceramic which matched my Jeep factory tint the best.
I personally don't see the point in paying all the extra money to put tint over the factory tinted windows. The factory tint does a pretty good job of blocking the heat as it is and sometimes with film you get tiny imperfections here and there so I leave those alone.
why you would want to tint the rear windows. One if someone wants to break into your jeep the rear glass will shatter where the front will shatter but the film will keep it together also same reason if you was to get into accident the film will keep the glass from flying around potentially hitting you and your kids if they are in jeep.
The tinted glass on the OEM windows doesn't have the heat reflection of the aftermarket tint. I am not sure what part of the country you are in, but in AZ the difference is night and day. There are some tests done with heat lamps and testing the heat reflection and they found the same results. In the AZ summer, it is pretty much like being blasted with a heat lamp at all times for 2 months or so.
So i decided to get 35 on my front doors as I got in trouble in the past with my old car which had 20. However, i am not happy with the results. The issue is that when I look out of it everything looks a tad bit yellowish(very mildly). Looks like its fall season out. My back doors have the OEM, even though they are darker i can see everything with their true colors. Did not have this issue in my old car either(had both 5 and 20). Everything looked in their true colors. Are all of the 35 tints like this? Or did i get one with yellowish filter in it? Can anybody with 35 confirm?
The picture doesnt really do the justice but i will put it in anyways.
This may have to do with the brand of tint used. Do you know what was installed? I think some variation is going to be unavoidable. Trying driving with it for a few weeks and see if it still bugs you.
I had the same thoughts, it may have something to do with the brand. I just got my front two done with 35% and first vehicle with the fronts tinted. Obviously not a match with the back but I didn't want to go too dark. The color from the outside though seems to match fairly well with the rear stock tint, just a little lighter. Things seem to look like their true colors to me?

My tint guy used Solar Guard and we went with 22% as it was the closest match to the rears. I've had Llumar on previous vehicles and like both films. There isn't a film I've had that I didn't like honestly. As long as you use a well regarded tint company I don't think you'll have any problems.
I haven't had a vehicle tinted aftermarket so this is my first experience. I researched this and found it to be a reasonably reputable brand and film type.
From what I gather, as long as you avoid the cheap stuff that will transpose dye to your windows and as long as you don't get a metallic film that has been known to interfere with electronics, there are a number of brands with good offerings. Many smaller tinters seem to prefer a specific brand while some of the larger shops have a variety to choose from.
The color is a pretty good match to factory, which I like. The guy is close, comes with a lifetime warranty and he does good work.
Again, not an expert, so I'd be happy to be enlightened if I've misrepresented the validity of my findings.
One thing is checking if there are any laws in your state about window tint. If you exceed the max allowable tint you could have trouble with the law and inspections if your state does them.
