Now that it is Fall

How do I let just outside air into the interior? I tried different settings but was unable to get outside air. Also checked in my Owners Guide with no luck.

Re: Now that it is Fall

This is far from an indisputable answer but, when I asked my salesman before I bought the car, he said it's not possible. Have to just open the windows.

Kind of annoying as I had that ability on my old car and did it all the time to just get a little fresh air circulating. Oh well, hope he's wrong and someone else will chime in.

Re: Now that it is Fall

There is no "VENT" setting on any of the climate controls. Obviously another well thought out "improvement". Thank God for modern technology. Remember when every car sold had a lever on each side that said "vent". Pull it and you got plenty of fresh air. One cable. Now there are 5,896 wires that connect the "climate controls" to the computer...... And you get stale air no matter how you set them. Then again, what the hell do you expect for $50,000.00? But at least now it's filtered stale air.

Re: Now that it is Fall

In AUTO mode it will always be a blend of fresh and recirculated air. How I turn mine to fresh is, manually turn re-circulation on so light is illuminated wait 10 sec then turn it off, set fan speed to 3 or higher. If you do this with the window open an inch or so you can tell there is more air exiting vehicle then coming in. My Mercedes ML operated the same way.

Re: Now that it is Fall

I never bothered trying it because for me its either on auto or completely off with the windows open.
I was under the impression though that if the unit is in auto, press the A/C button (which will then illuminate), then press A/C again and the light will go off. So after this you will see the A/C and "Auto" lights both off. I could be wrong but I assumed this was "vent" mode. A good way to figure it out is do my recommended method, then pop the hood and watch the A/C compressor and see/listen if it cycles. If it does NOT, then we found your vent mode :-)

Re: Now that it is Fall

When the system is in auto mode it is often pulling outside air when it is just maintaining temp. when you first start the jeep in hot or cold extremes it will automatically go to recirculate in order to cool or heat the car to temp faster then goes back to outside air if outside temps allow. with auto mode off and recirculate button light lite it recirculates the air, recirculate button off pulls outside air in. In auto mode the ac and recirculate buttons stay unlit even though it maybe using ac and fluctuating between outside air and recirculate. that is how my 2014 operates not sure about the pre 2014s as they did change a lot staring with 14s

Tried that this morning and that worked!

Thanks for all of the posts y'all.

Re: Now that it is Fall

Tried my method on the way to work just a bit ago and sure enough it puts the system in vent mode.
1. With system ON in regular auto mode, press AUTO button (auto light will turn off and A/C light will turn on)
2. Press A/C button (light will turn off)

You are now in vent mode and free to change fan speed or which vents are selected to your desire.

My $80,000 QX56 still has a vent button, albeit controlled by countless wires and circuits. Never really use it though--if it is nice enough outside to allow in fresh air, I just open the windows. There are a lot of areas around me where I simply do not want to smell the outside air, especially around marshes at low tide with the pluff mud that smells like a combination of dead fish and a sewage plant.
