OEM hitch install and new rear valance

Now that it is getting warmer and other house projects are done I am getting back to the Jeep.

I am going to install a factory hitch. Can I just use any bolts to bolt it on?

Hopefully wiring will be ok.

I am also installing a new lower valance with hitch cutout and dual exhaust. I do not have dual exhaust yet but have most parts already in hand.

Any helpful hints are always helpful.

thanks

OEM hitch install and new rear valance

Short answer is no.

Your new hitch should have come with all of the hardware. If it didn't, go to your local dealer or online and buy the OEM hardware.

Re: OEM hitch install and new rear valance

Thanks AntsJeep. I got the OEM hitch from a friend for $50. Just hitch and wiring, it was brand new and could not pass up. Do you know the specs on the bolts?

Re: OEM hitch install and new rear valance

OP, keep in mind that once you have this OEM hitch and wiring pigtail physically installed, you're going to need the dealer to "turn on" the wiring in the vehicle computer system. They do charge for this. It's not active until the proper sales code is entered into the JGC computer system.

Re: OEM hitch install and new rear valance

Thanks Jim, I knew that and will make sure to get it enabled prior to using. I will mostly be borrowing a friends small trailer to bring stuff to to compost etc. I do not want to mess up interior of the GC like past vehicles.

Re: OEM hitch install and new rear valance

I'm sure the bolts are a specific grade..

just go to your dealer or eastcoastmoparts and get the factory bolts... having one of those bolts shear under load would NOT be a pleasant experience..

Just buy them from your dealer. That way there is no question about having the right bolts or not.

If you put your vehicle info and general location in your profile it will appear in every post. I'm assuming you drive a WK2 and that you live in the States.
