Opinions needed - New Front Bumper Cover needed

So I drove 3 hours north to pick up my new 2013 JGC and stayed overnight with a buddy of mine. His drunk wife backs into my new jeep and creased/deep scratched my upper bumper cover.

So they are paying for it obviously. Going to cost about $500 from the local dealer to order a new one and have them paint it. My color is Brilliant Black Pearl so I am a bit worried about having a new one painted by a dealer body shop. I know it may not look identical to the factory paint but will I be able to tell?? I know what most of you will say. I'm pretty anal about my jeep to begin with.

I can now get rid of the front license plate bracket that the original dealer already had installed since Nebraska is a front plate state.

I also have found a front bumper cover with same paint used, with only 2200 miles taken from a 2012 Overland. Doesnt seem to have anything wrong with it. They guy wont ship so I'd have to drive 7 hours to pick it up.

So its either buy new and paint or buy slightly used but would be factory paint but have to drive 7 hours.

What would you guys do?

Re: Opinions needed - New Front Bumper Cover needed

First you have to ask yourself if it is financially worth it. How much would the new bumper cost you? How much would the used bumper cost you? How many miles is it from you? How much will you be paying for gas? If its cheaper to just order the new one do that. if you save $200 by buying a used one and driving 7 hours to get it, it might just be worth it. Make sure you have good music to listen to and force your friend to come with you.

Re: Opinions needed - New Front Bumper Cover needed

My buddy is paying for this as his wife is the one that caused the damage. So essentially nothing out of my pocket.

New bumper cover with paint = $500 if I buy part from dealership. Other website sell the part for $75 less.

Used bumper (which includes fog lights and the lower bumper piece) = Under $300 I could sell the fogs and overland skid plate and lower bumper piece separately.

Figure 2 tanks of gas so about $160 to drive.

I personally would just order a new one from the website. You don't know if there are any paint chips on the used bumper. just my opinion.

Re: Opinions needed - New Front Bumper Cover needed

if you that skeptical about having a new one painted, then just drive the 7 hours and buy the new bumper. To each his own.

Since you have a black jeep I think that the paint will match fine. it's the lighter colors i think you have to be worried about....

I'd have a new bumper painted and then install a 3m clear bra. Makes cleaning bug splatter much easier if you are fussy about keeping it looking good.

Re: Opinions needed - New Front Bumper Cover needed

The paint wuld have to be grossly off for it to be noticeable. The compound curves of the front bumper would mask a slight difference in shade. The light reflections will fool the eye.

Three weeks into ownership of mine I had a fender bender myself and it required a new bumper cover.

The deep cherry is 3 s stage color but my body shop guy told me that Spies Hecker is able to convert 3 stage colors into two stage colors.

The first time it was repainted it was a littte off but no one ever noticed. Then my coworker backed into my front bumper and the second time the color match was dead on.

New bumper, professional high quality body shop paint and clear coat, and it will be perfect.

Re: Opinions needed - New Front Bumper Cover needed

I agree. It is so new, there shouldn't be a problem matching the color.
