Opinions on Black Mirrors and Door Handles

Hey everyone,

I am in the process of de-chroming my 2016 Billet Silver Overland. I just wanted some opinions on getting the door handles and side mirrors done in black. I already have the parts to do color-matching for the mirrors and door handles, but part of me thinks it would look pretty good if they were done in black to match the rest of the chrome I am replacing. Any thoughts or opinions?

I've seen that contrast before and once in a rare and done well it looks good, but paint matching handles and mirrors pretty much always looks good. If you carried it on to the grille and other ares it will be a rare bird. If you have already paint matched parts I'd wrap them and have the option.

I have covers for the mirrors and the door handles that I planned on getting paint matched. I'm having all the chromed wrapped soon in Satin Black so I was toying with the idea of doing the mirrors and door handles too. I'm having my window trim, my front fascia, my roof rack, foglight bezels, tailight bezels, and the cargo step all wrapped. I just figured the door handles and mirrors would match! Thanks for the input.

In my personal opinion, having those 2 items black would only look good if you had black wheels to add to the accent, otherwise I say color match to the body color. Plus, I believe your handle covers are like the ones I bought where they don't fit very well, leaving a faint visible strip of chrome around the perimeter right?

I'll be experimenting the in the spring with different options to black out the mirrors and door handles too.

My wheels are going to get powder coated black until I have the funds to pay for the set I really want. Unfortunately I have to pay for my summer semester of grad school first so I don't have the three grand to drop on tires and wheels.

Yeah the handle covers leave a little strip on the inside. That's why I was thinking of just getting them wrapped with the rest of the car. Plus I saw a Wrangler Unlimited that was silver with the black handles and mirrors and I really kind of liked it.

just ordered a billet silver limited. going to put black wheels on it and de-chrome it also. with the black wheels & black lower body trim, I was thinking of swapping out the handles for black, but color matching the mirrors. couldn't find any pics of black handles on a wk2 billet silver with black wheels though...have to widen my search.

I think I'm going to get the mirrors and the door handles done. We shall see. I'm getting estimates now on wrapping. I already have a guy who is going to powder coat my wheels. I'll make sure I post pictures here if I do it.

Ok so I actually really like the black on the door handles and mirrors from that picture you posted. I think I am going to go for it. Now the only question is, satin black or gloss?

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I finally got a couple quotes. For everything in gloss black (lower fascia, roof rail, window trim, fog lights, tail lights, mirrors, door handles and cargo step trim) one was priced at $700 and the other was $750. Does that seem fair? Both places offer 3M or Avery. Any preferences?

I think it seems fair if it is going to hold up for 5 years. I mean the black foglight bezels and tail light bezels are over $200 alone. Plus it looks like the window trim will be a pain to do it yourself. My painted covers would have be $89 plus the $150 for painting. It doesn't seem bad to me, but I have no experience with it so I really don't know.

After doing some research online it seems Avery and 3M are the consensus best two brands and they both have good manufacturer's warranties.

Because the original plan was to color match them. So that was costs I was already figuring in. Plus, I may not like the black on them and still color match them. It just depends on how they come out really.

Yeah, I hear you...visual modifications are one of those on-going mental disputes. Until you see how it looks in person, you'll never know for sure.

I'm in a similar boat, I want to black out a majority of the trim but don't want it to be washed out either, that "murdered" look is kind of played out so I'm going to be experimenting with a few things come spring time.
