Opinions on color choice - Chrome or Black

Awhile back I put on the Altitude brilliant black grill on my overland. I have also removed the chrome side trim, blacked out emblems, black wheels, etc. Basically all black. I have been questioning if I should leave the grill mess as the chrome color from the altitude grill or change it to black from my old overland grill. The only chrome will be the mirriors, door handles, window trim, tow hooks and the lower bumper piece.

Another quick question ... matte black, semi gloss or gloss black wheels?

Below is what the front of my jeep looks like now and also a picture of another jeep with an all blacked out grill.

I hesitated to call it chrome bc like you said, its not. Thank you, I value your input. Thats the way I was leaning, but I still open to others thoughts.

Re: Opinions on color choice - Chrome or Black

I vote black for the grill, that's what I have on my WK2. I did the mirrors black also but the handles and trim will be staying chrome...probably.

Wheels, I like shiny so I personally would do gloss but that's just me. The SRT wheels in my sig were semi-gloss powder coated and I was unhappy with them. Hubs did his Darts wheels gloss painted and they look awesome.

I think with the brilliant black paint, that gloss may actually look better. Not saying that your wheels look bad in the photo, but I agree that gloss would probably look better.

Did you find black mirrior caps? I have been looking for brilliant black ones, but I cant find any. No one is selling them and nothing is online as reproductions.

Re: Opinions on color choice - Chrome or Black

The SRT has been gone awhile now in favor of a brilliant black 13 GC. My current wheels are the 18' Mopar wheels which are black and chrome which is why I left some of the other chrome parts too.

My mirror caps I got from my Jeep dealers body shop. When I got my Jeep I gave them a list of what I wanted and when they get a Jeep in with something I want that someone is replacing, they let me know. Someone with a brand new Jeep wanted chrome caps so I was offered the backs before they got tossed.

Re: Opinions on color choice - Chrome or Black

I have the stock Overland 20s that came on the 2011. I like them a lot, I just want the SRT spider monkeys in black with BFGoodrich KO2s. At least thats my thoughts now. I may end up changing my mind in a week from off-road to street.

Thats a pretty sweet hook up you got there. Maybe I can try the dealer to see what they got or if they come across anything. I've tried on here with no luck. I feel like brilliant black ones are few and far between.

I went with black mesh. Here's pics of my blacked out Overland: Overland Sport Edition :: 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

I vote for gloss black wheels if you want black wheels.

jgc4ever, your jeep looks great. And we were just talking about black mirror caps. But the answer I seem to keep getting is go black and same for the wheels as well. I need that rear brow too like you have jgc.

I'm guessing that I have to completely remove the fron bumper/grill again to swap out the grill inserts.

Thanks.

Yes, to remove the inner mesh pieces you would have to remove the entire front end. I never had to since I just kept the original black mesh on my Overland and the Altitude platinum "chrome" mesh is still in a box.

Chrome mirror caps had to go, same with the rear license brow. Hated that look. I'm OK with the chrome door handles although I'd prefer they were brilliant balck too. I'm thinking of actually ordering a 2016 High Altitude or Altitude (if it's even offered) in brilliant black of course.

I bought the brilliant black rear brow. I told my dealer about the mirror caps and he asked around their dealership and the used car sales manager had a Brilliant Black Laredo and him and his wife wanted the chrome caps so we swapped. If not for that, I would have just bought the entire brilliant black mirrors based on a laredo VIN and just used the black caps...that's a little costly though.

My vote is for the black mesh and semi gloss rims.

Re: Opinions on color choice - Chrome or Black

I'm going to do the black mesh this weekend. I can always change back if need be.

I'm going try the dealers for the mirror caps and hopefully get lucky. I'll eventually order the rear brow and probably a black step pad also. The rest of the chrome I like. Maybe change out the chrome roof racks. Haven't decided on that tho.

I really wish I could get the 14 headlights on this car. I love those and know ppl have done it, but fitment is off
