I have been trying to find a way to have the side mirror colored. I have been asking body shop around the area with no luck. I asked the dealership, first they were able to order me a cover, but when the parts is here, they told me it wouldn't fit the mirror and they were asking $900 for a new set of mirrors. I was giving up on it. I stop by a shop recently and they claimed they can wrap the mirror for me, they did, but I am not impress the job. There are edges on the side mirror and the guy in the shop told me the edge will be shrink later on, but instead it started to peel off. I wonder what kind options do I have?
Damn. That is a terrible wrap. The only option you have is to have them painted or buy some mirrors for a Laredo of the same color. You can't buy the caps separately. I went with new mirrors.
I bought a set of chrome caps off eBay and sent them to Scott's Paint & Performance for paint (he's a sponsor here). He also painted the rear brow on my GC too.
Buy a color matched set off the All Mopar Parts website. You'll need to send them an email with a VIN of a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the colored side mirrors you want. They'll then order the entire side mirrors along with the color matched side covers (or shells).
To keep costs down, just select the VIN from a Laredo of the color you want. You won't be using the entire mirror; just the covers. You can also search this site for simple instructions on changing the covers out.
I just had hubs talk to the body shop at the dealer and tell them what we needed. As soon as they had someone wanting to change from black to chrome, which didn't take long, they called us up and gave us a nice new set of black caps.
We always play nice with the local shops. Hubs helps them and they help us.
It's really hard to find a shop in my area that can really do jobs for me. It is almost begging. Just this morning, I got a call from a local body shop I have my car repair over a year ago. They told me they made a mistake on the bill I had and they wanted me to paid for remainder amount that the insurance company wasn't willing to paid. Seriously, you only find this out over a year later...... "-_-
I plastikoted my chrome ones black. It won't be a perfect match to your body color but they just look like the all black plastic ones. It was better than chrome. Took me a couple hours and still looks great even though they have been that way since November. Winter in Nebraska take toll on everything. But I am anal about my vehicle. It gets washed once a week even if it is running through a touchless automatic. I will post up pix if you are interested in seeing them.
Like snipe said just order the factory mirrors for a laredo. Thats what I did recieved them yesterday and changed them out today. The Billet silver painted ones look 100 times better than the chrome ones. Yes the price is a little steep but it is well worth it.
I ordered a spare set of chrome covers and painted them myself.
Ordered primer and the factory color on line (billet silver for me) all in easy spray cans.
Sanded, primed, and painted the caps. Cost 120 + an hour labor.
And I have a spare set of caps.
