The finishes should match, and they do on all other vehicles with matte finished wood. If they have wood leather wheels...they are matte finish too.
Nothing 4,000 2,000, 1,000, or 800 grit wet sanding and 30 minutes of your time won't take care of until you find the sheen you want.
though i agree....match it from the beginning...matte would probably feel much better on your hands. people don't armor-all steering wheels for a reason...they shouldn't be slippery.
This will be my first vehicle with a wood steering wheel, so can't speak to if they're actually slick or not....but aesthetically...it could be better.
