Paint cracking on hood

Washed and waxed my 2011 overland yesterday. When I was waxing it found weird scratches on my hood. Looked like cracks. Has anyone had problems with the paint on the hood cracking? It is a very well kept vehicle. No reason for paint to be cracking. Almost should be a recall.

No issues with my 2011. Do you have any pictures you could post up?

Tried as best as I could to get them. They go from the grill to windshield.

Hard to see but it looks like my 98 XJ hood. Should not be like that

Re: Paint cracking on hood

Yeah its hard to take a picture of it. The light has to hit it just right after I waxed it. But The crack is just to the left of the ridge on the hood. The jeep is out of warranty. do you think this is something that they will handle?

Re: Paint cracking on hood

I was able to see the issue when I enlarged the pics. Even if your not under warranty I would bring this to the dealer and see if they are willing to do anything.
This certainly doesn't seem normal. Good luck to you.

Re: Paint cracking on hood

Boy, that is weird! I have never seen anything like that before...even on old vehicles with failing paint.

I would take it back to them for sure...if its out of warranty you are probably SOL, but its worth a shot.

Re: Paint cracking on hood

Very strange indeed! I've never seen anything like that before. If you know someone with auto paint experience, I'd show them for an opinion.

Re: Paint cracking on hood

I called the dealership about it. Made sure that i mentioned that it was out of warranty. I have to bring it into the body shop tomorrow and they are going to do some sort of digital imaging test on it and send the results to corporate to see if they will cover it. sounds to me that its a fancy word for sending pictures. Im honestly wondering if there is a deeper problem with the HEMI engine compartment. my washer nozels deteriorated and shattered. and now paint problems. Excess heat seems like it could be a possibility. all I know is that it definitely shouldn't happen I hand wash and wax it. ill update yall when i know something!

You sure it's not "etching" from hard water or something else?
Take it to a professional detail shop before you take it too the dealer.
