Paint Duribility

Going to take the plunge on Saturday and order a 2017 Overland in White with all the goodies.

Question on the paint. How durable are the front ends? Is jeeps paint known for being soft or hard?

Considering a clear bra for road rash but on the fence since its basic white. A respray 5 years down the road will cost less but will be more of a hassle.

Thanks

Re: Paint Duribility

I don't know about Jeep's paint reputation but so far it's held up great compared to our Lexus that has less miles on it. I ride ass. I'm always shocked when I see that there's not any chips on the GC.

Re: Paint Duribility

My 2012 and 2015 Jeeps have had better (harder) paint then my old Toyota. I haven't owned my Jeep long enough to say that its as tough as my 1996 Chevy Blazer paint-wise (which was a TANK).

Re: Paint Duribility

I have installed a clear bra on all my cars since 2004 including my 15 HA and my new 2017 Tri-Coat Ivory Summit.

I don't go off roading or down many gravel roads but I still like having it protecting the from end. For a $55k vehicle, what's and extra $500.

If you zoom in on the pictures, the pearl shows the same with or without the clear bra. My finger is where it ends on the fender. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1473997079.001654.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1473997117.953673.jpg

I don't know if the paint is hard or soft, but with the front end being primarily vertical, I chose to clear bra the entire front end. The entire hood, bumper, both fenders, pillars, and the eight inches of roof between the windshield and sunroof.

Besides being chip and scratch proof, I don't have to worry about waxing these surfaces. It always looks amazing!

I've used a clear bra on my last 3 vehicles as well. Last one done was a on tri coat white and had had problems through out. The installer had dirty hands and it looked like hell. Had to fight in order to get it done properly. I told my self never again after that but here I am.

I only plan to have the overland for 3 year's. Hoping I love it enough to take advantage of the body change in 2019. I don't drive my vehicles much. Maybe 8k miles a year. Might roll the dice with the paint being durable.

Mook on here would be able to shine some knowledge on this. I have owned 2 Chrysler vehicles and my sister has had 2 as well, I have done 3 full corrections and would have to consider the paint to be pretty hard.

I have an 8 month old white summit, and somehow already have a few paint chips on my rear bumper, spoiler, side skirts, and fenders... Only on the parts with plastic under the paint

Re: Paint Duribility

We have a white 2014 Overland and went with a 3m clear bra. Dealer installed. Paint matches up just great and, in fact, you REALLY have to look hard to find where it ends. Had a couple of stone chips on the hood and front of roof but, using the MoPar touch-up, you can't notice them. Paint appears to be quite resilient.

You remember the cost from the dealership?

Re: Paint Duribility

FYI I was referring to clear coat softness and polishing/correcting scratches.
Soft or hard clear isn't going to protect ya from rocks 😲😲😲 full bra should run ya about 1000 bucks

Re: Paint Duribility

My dealer did the full front bra and rear door kicks for $500. Negotiated as part of the purchase price, along with an extended warranty. I bought our JGC from Helfman River Oaks Jeep in Houston. Great folks and the easiest auto purchase I ever made.
