Paint Issues

Hello,

We bought a new JGC Diesel on Memorial Day in Crystal Granite Metallic and the hood is splotchity - almost like a mild camo. In the picture I have attached on the right side there are two marks that appear to be under the clear coat. We are taking it to dealer to look at tomorrow along with a small dent on the top of the hood. Anyone else experienced this paint apparent issue? Found some of the same look on the side of the vehicle by the hatch door too.

Not sure if picture attached.

Thanks

Mark

Re: Paint Issues

if you search here you should find some other threads about the Metallic colors especially grey and granite maybe others.

something with the way the metallic lays and the light IIRC. making the paint look blotchy and such.

i would be extra cautious before having them do anything but see what they say and make note in your record.

then do further research before you let them paint anything unless absolutely necessary.

maybe consult with the real high end detailer in your area....when you are the only non exotic on the lot.

Good Luck.

Re: Paint Issues

Common issue with the Grey colors. My 2012 is Mineral Grey with similar issue. Most of my blotchy-ness was on the front 1/2 of the hood. Most of the issue went away when I had a clear hood overlay installed on the front part of the hood. Regular care and polishing (clay bar) and over time the problem minimized to today, where it has virtually disappeared. Patience on my part was preferrable to the dealer's suggestion of re-painting the hood. Others in the forum have opted for the repaint, with varying levels of success. Personally, I would rather have the factory paint.

Exactly the same situation here. It bothered me when it was new, but now I hardly notice it. Whenever I came across another mineral grey, it had the issue so I let it go.
