Paint or replace chrome door handles?

Can the Overland chrome door handles be successfully painted body color, or would it be better for long-term durability to simply replace them with a set of paintable Laredo handles?

The durability of any paint job can only be determined by the prep work.

Whether you use the best products or the cheapest products if the prep is shoddy you paint won't adhere.

If you go the route of painting or powder coating your chrome door handles find a shop that can show work that they have done long before that has stood up to time and wear.

If you decide to purchase and and paint new ones then you can sell the chrome ones to offset the cost, I don't know what a set of used chrome door handle would go for but I would offer $150 to 175 for the set.

I plan on having a good body shop that has done excellent work for me in the past do the painting, including the various other chrome pieces. They are willing to do it, although they have expressed some concerns about being able to warrantee the durability of paint over chrome. Since the door handles will receive more "handling" than the other painted pieces, I just wanted to get some feedback from those of you who may have either painted or replaced your handles as to which method you preferred when it came to the long-term durability of the paint.

This post has some good info on replacing the chrome door handles with already painted ones. http://www.jeepgarage.org/showpost.php?p=447493&postcount=3

He makes a good point of cost plus the labor needed to swap them out. I'm weighing the costs of what my painter would charge me to paint the handles as opposed to buying the parts and trying to swap them out myself. I'll make that decision once he gets me a quote. I want to get the chrome around the windows painted too so if he gives me a goood deal on both, I might just go the painting route.
