That's incorrect.

Polishing is the act of removing scratches/swirls by removing layers. A perfectly polished surface can be waxed without causing harm to that surface.

The product you're describe his a light abrasive, a lot of fillers (to make it look like it has improved the paint quality) and a synthetic sealant over the top of it.

There's certainly nothing wrong with products like this, but they're nothing special that only the dealer can get, and certainly not worth the cost of the dealer job.
