Paint Quality/flaws

There is definitely some questionable paint quality that I have seen on a lot of WK2, usually some fisheyes and some drips near the lower part of the door, but damn what the hell happened here?

Luckily its only on the B pillar door jamb and you cant really see it when the doors aren't open - but how does this happen in what I can only assume is near clean room conditions in a modern plant that just had a paint booth upgrade recently.

This is a 5/16 build Limited 75th in Granite. The bumps are clearly under the base coat as well. Not my car yet, they gave it to me for the weekend to ponder as a potential replacement for my 4/16 build that they cannot fix a hesitation issue that they have been consulting with Jeep engineers on for 4 weeks.

I guess in the grand scheme of things I would rather have this issue than the hesitation issue my other one has but damn, are any of these things of decent quality?

Re: Paint Quality/flaws

I think Jeep has been plagued with quality issues ever since the handover to FCA. It's disappointing between paint issues and misaligned body panels to the Pentastar head issues early on. My 2012 had paint smudges and bubbles on delivery but since it was an Artic Edition I was willing to overlook it. The warranty covered it but it was still a bit of a hassle. My wife's 2015 JGC Limited drivers side door is not aligned properly either but again warranty will cover the fix. It just seems like they're willing to overlook quality issues to pump out as many as possible and are betting on the love for their brand on repeat customers. Just my humble opinion though. Good luck with your decision

My 15 HA has the worst factory paint job I have ever seen outside of Ford not knowing how to prep aluminum hoods. Will definitely play into what my next vehicle is.

Re: Paint Quality/flaws

I saw some oddities in the paint as well on both 2016 HA models at a local dealership. The spots that stood out is where it rounds off around the back drivers side reat window to the back hatch. It looked like the paint was smeared on almost instead of painted. This was both a silver and velvet red HA

I agree for picky paint people it's pretty bad...the average joe or housewife wouldn't notice probably... My 15 HA has several small flaws , I can't believe passed inspection.

Re: Paint Quality/flaws

I must have been a lucky one. I actually am very happy with the paint on my 2015 HA. Very nice finish and I have not found any defects and I have been over the paint closely doing a full clay bar and wax job already.
I had a 2014 Summit which was also good, but that one did have a piece of debris stuck in the paint on the driver door. Some paint guy said he thinks it was a bug that got painted over lol.

Re: Paint Quality/flaws

My 2015 that I just bought about a month ago has an extra thick coating of clear coat on the top edge of the passenger side rear door under the window. I took it to a dealer and the paint guys suggested just leaving it like that. Other than that it looks okay--but it does demonstrate that their quality control is not all that great. I already posted too that I had to have the hood realigned by the body shop as one side was about 1/8 inch from hitting the fender when closing the hood, but they corrected that by moving it over and it is now fine.

I am super picky about that kind of stuff, and there is not a single flaw on my 2016. It is white, however, and white is a lot easier to paint than some of the darker colors/pearls.

Re: Paint Quality/flaws

Hey all. New to the forum and picked up a 2015 GC Limited 2 weeks ago. I noticed last night on the front bumper between license plate and grill the clear coat is chipping off. There are two areas, each about the size of a dime that lost the clear coat. Immediately ordered a touch up size bottle of clear coat from Mopar. Has anyone else had this issue? Hoping I can stop the chipping by brushing clear coat to the spots that lost it and it bonding to the factory clear coat.

Re: Paint Quality/flaws

I have 2 large areas on my hood and 1 on the driver's door of my 16 HA that look (as best as I can describe) like the metallic in the paint is laying in a different direction than the surrounding areas. They really stick out when the lighting conditions are right.

Every time I see that I just shake my head and think, so much for the new paint equipment they installed in the factory.

Paint Quality/flaws

My hood has a two oval spots on either side just behind the headlights equidistant from each other. I tried to correct those areas with my DA and it's 100% in the paint, not the clear coat

Similar to what MDBones said, you can only see them at certain angles in direct sunlight. Otherwise you would never know they're there.
