Paint recessed lettering in chrome side molding?

Sorry if this has been discussed, I can't seem to locate a thread. Has anyone on here ever painted the recessed lettering in chrome side molding? I like the look that some of you have gotten by removing them and replacig with the grand cherokee lettering, but I want to keep my side molding. I bought the matching paint for my cherokee (brilliant black) and would like to fill in the recessed lettering but its difficult to get it just right.

Anyone know if an easy way to do this? Any write ups about it?

Thanks!

Re: Paint recessed lettering in chrome side molding?

I currently have my chrome side moldings off ATM, as I'm trying to achieve a de-chromed look.
Whilst they are off I decided to do a little experiment with them and painted them body coloured and coloured the lettering in before clear coating them.
Still unsure if I want to refit them of not, so they're just sitting on a shelf in the garage.

If you were wanting to just paint the lettering then I would suggest a good clean with a wax and grease remover inside the letters and some gloss black automotive paint with a fine artist brush and a steady hand!!!
As it is slightly textured in there the paint should stick quite well.
It took me approx. 3/4 of an hour to hand paint each side with them on a bench and being able to move them around to make sure I got it all without making any mistakes..............have patience.

Thanks man. Looks really good. How in the world did you get them off without damaging them?

Re: Paint recessed lettering in chrome side molding?

They're only held on with double sided tape.
I used some fishing line to cut through the tape using a sawing motion, then used my fingers to rub off any tape left on the car and finally some wax and grease remover to remove any sticky residue off.
