Putting leather conditioner on the plastic (urethane) coating does nothing to preserve the leather. But it does make people feel good, and that's ok too.

Haha, well I have seen lots of things in the manual that are not correct. I challenge anyone to condition 1/2 of your driver seat and not the other. After doing this for a year or two I bet you will see a difference.

Great advise on all fronts. Just received confirmation today... Jeep is replacing the seat leather. I am now impressed.

Honestly dealers are front line, you have a decent dealer and you will have a good experience. A defect is a defect. Glad to hear you are being looked after.

Excellent news! I wonder if they will cover the seat with new leather or just replace the whole seat to make it faster.

They can replace the cover (entire bottom or back of seat).

Re: Perforated leather seat quality - 2014 Overland

More than likely they will just replace the part with the issue it is not that difficult to reskin the seat.

I have been using the LEXOL glycerin based cleaner, I am pleased with the the level of soil removal I get from it and it is not harsh on my skin either.

Their leather condition is great too but I get get the feeling that whatever they are coated with the conditioner does not penetrate the seat.

Plus the Lexol cleaner leaves behind a lubricatig film for about two days before you can't feel it to the touch.

Re: Perforated leather seat quality - 2014 Overland

I'm pretty new to this site but so far am impressed. Learning so much about my new summit. I do have a question about my seats. What is under the leather. It almost sounds like a plastic bag or something under the driver and passenger side front seats. Is this normal? I know its not a big thing just curious.

It is some type of polymer mesh. It is there to allow the ventilated seats to work properly.

I use Chemical Guys products and have been using them for many years, all of their products are incredible. I use CG's inner clean which is an amazing plastic cleaner and their Leather Cleaner plus conditioner... on, well, leather of course.

Check out their youtube channel, they have a wealth of car care tutorials from novice to pro detailer. like me!

Re: Perforated leather seat quality - 2014 Overland

I have a 2014 Overland as well and I am having the same issue. I have 1250 miles on it and I own nothing that would cause such an abrasion. at first i thought i had got a smudge or something fell on it but after wiping it with water the top layer is cracking away from the underside just as a temporary tattoo would feel off of your skin.. my heart dropped when i saw this because it should not be happening with a 50k+ vehicle.

I am going to take it to the dealer with this information as ammo if they say they cant do anything about it.

Only in your wallet. Unless you have an exotic car, the leather is coated with a plastic surface and any conditioner will never get through to the leather.
