Plasti dipping grill and need help

I have a 2012 jgc laredo with a chrome grill and I'm about to plastidip it to black and was wondering if it must be taken off before or if i could do it while its on the car. i do not want to take the bumper off and would like to just leave it on and paint over it is that possible?

I don't think anyone would recommend doing it on the car.... you are going to get spray on your radiator and who knows where else. I'm planning to do it as well but i'll be removing the bumper.

Re: Plasti dipping grill and need help

I did it without taking it off. Plastidip is totally harmless, just peel off any excess or use Goo Gone. However, it's a lot easier if you take it off.

Re: Plasti dipping grill and need help

Pulling the grill off took about 10 minutes - a few screws under the hood, and carefully pry the grill off - the cover part comes right off and you can paint.....

Re: Plasti dipping grill and need help

I thought the whole bumper had to be removed?? So the chrome cover part separates from the rest of the grill?

I opened the hood, pulled the screws, and removed the chrome piece to paint it. No need to remove the bumper. Have done it a few times, very easy.
