Plastic trim.

Aside from the difference in materials and any other logical but way too simple explanation. Why does the black plastic surround on my antenna dead center of my roof stay dark as night and the flares and steps look like 10 shades of shit gray. My 20-year-old BMW that's never seen a garage is in such better shape it's pathetic. The difference between crap and quality illudes Chrysler so often it's a shame that more people who like long term ownership get screwed out of decent parts.

I agree, it's a shame that the textured plastic on the rest of the vehicle can't stay black...especially on a black Jeep it looks pretty bad once it starts to fade. I'm in that position right now, so come spring time I will be re-painting all of it with SEM Trim Black Euro-Jet in satin finish to restore it. This is their "darkest" coating available, quite a nice difference from previous SEM Trim Black.

If you can get you hands on some of the Spray Max 2K satin black and never have to worry about fading again.

By the time may car hit 3 years old in this tropical sun it had began to fade.

I used Evercoat "black it out" matte finish to paint almost all the trim on my car and it held up for 2 years after that.

Mud, rain splash water, snow/salt and sun all that is acidic and abrasive to the fenders... the antena its mostly hit by cleaner water and sun. Like the previous post suggested get some good VRP or back to black products and you will restore a bit and prevent from more damage.
