So I plastidipped the chrome bezels around the windows on my 14 GC altitude...looks awesome...next are the calipers and then I'm done visually...then sound is the priority
So everything else is gloss, but you didn't want the window trim to match? Then matte would also be a solution, but if it was going to be too pricey to install, I understand.
I just can't see the dip looking as good or lasting as long as the vinyl wrap. Mine didn't.
Actually, if u look at most stock cars...if they don't have a chrome finish bezel, it's always a matte rubber finish to it...kind of like a gasket look...and that's what I wanted...the altitude should have come with this stock anyway...no chrome anywhere on the truck...little mistake on their part if u ask me

Hey muser99 could you send me some pics of what plastic dip spray cans you used please , I'm going to do this as well you wouldn't believe how many professional car wrap places rejected me in wrapping the chrome strips around my windows on my SRT , I have rang at least 10 shops all said they would touch it ?? So now I'm forced to go this way . I must say judging by the pics you uploaded you did a good job WD mate
I would try to wrap myself but I have my reasons why I can't do small precision cutting like this , it's just medical reasons and nothing else but I can hold a spray can lol
Couple more questions mate did you prep the chrome with anything first to make it stick better ? And also can you hit it with the gerni or will it just peel off ? What I mean gerni is high pressure water from a Karcher unit . And what about maintenance any specific maintenance is required ? Sorry for all the questions just trying to get my head around what to do , and thanks for any help you can provide cheers .

I've used pressure washers on my old rims that were plastidipped and i've never had an issue. Of course, if you're using an extremely high powered pressure washer, then you need to be careful how long you concentrate on that area. Fan out the water instead of a powerful stream and you'll never have a problem.
Hey maxy9...thanks for the feedback...here's the plastidip I used below...I also shake a little too...so I actually had help peeling off the tape and stuff...
From my experience washing anything that's been plastidipped, I've never used a powerwash but always used a hose and scrubbed pretty hard and never had an issue...once I'm done plastipping anything, I always wait a few days before washing or scrubbing it
I really like the look of it! I did the chrome window trim on my WK and it has held up well over 6 months now. I even take my Jeep through automatic car washes without any peeling or flaking, one brushless and the other microfiber brushes. The grill was done over a year ago and has stood up to the test of time so far. Vinyl has it's pluses and minuses just like Plasti Dip, but dollar for dollar your WK2 looks great!
The pics look great! Well done- could you do mine? Lol. I plasti dipped my side trim last week on my red laredo, and it looks so much better (of course with the chrome window trim it looks kind of off). I plan on doing the window trim eventually, giving my Jeep GC that red w/ blacked out look. What did you use to prep the trim? Also, how many coats did you apply? I usually hang around 4-5 coats and I'm just curious. Again, well done man!
Hey ctown...thanks man...again I had some help doing it but yea 4-5 coats is what we did...and as far as prepping, make sure the area is super clean beforehand just so the plastidip comes smooth...try to do on a non-windy day to avoid overspray
Did you use the glossifier too? I've debating on whether to do this but not sure. How does it look in regards the cracks in between the doors and what not?
Was a little tricky cause I picked a windy day so I had some overspray...other than that, just tape about 1/2 inch around and use at least 4-5 coats(10-15min between each coat) after 5th coat wait 20min...I find a little easier to peel off the plastidip if it's heavy and dried.
Yeah Ive been watching a lot of videos on youtube on how to do it. I'm definitely going to black out the emblems and trim. I'm getting the altitude grill and liftgate piece. I'm just not sure about the wheels because my drive way is on a hill and it'll be tough to take the wheels off unless I buy a jack and jack stands. Oh decisions!
You definitely don't NEED to take the wheels off. I just used a plastic drop cloth behind the wheel and between the rotor/caliper. After your first 3-4 even coats, move the car forward half a wheel rotation and repeat. I did a full chrome delete with dip and I think the wheels were honestly the easiest part. The amount of prep work required for the window trim was a huge PITA but definitely worth it. You can use index cards where the rim meets the tire if you want, but my tires were freshly cleaned so it wasn't an issue. The dip peeled right off the rubber like it was a metal panel. Good luck, you'll love the look!
