Re: Platform style hitch bike rack

I got my new rack, ended up going with the KŁat NV. I'm really liking it so far, here's a pic with my bikes loaded up- ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1402877160.199901.jpg

There's a reason KŁat calls their top level rack NV - I envy your rack! Congrats on the purchase.

Haha, thanks! My only complaint so far is that it leans to the left when in the fold up position so it looks crooked. I may call them to see if that's normal or if maybe mine is defective. Other than that I really like it.

Re: Platform style hitch bike rack

I also have a Thule T2.. great rack and it tips down when you need to open the liftgate with bikes on. Rack is great but there's a related problem.

I don't know if this affects GC owners but on the Cherokee there's no way to disable the power liftgate. When bikes are on or rack is up, an accidental press of the liftgate button on dash or remote could cause a nasty scratch/dent. When I raised this issue with Jeep their first answer was that the liftgate auto reverses their second answer was about the chime that sounds (if only bikes could hear) and their third answer is that they'll contact the dealer.

Easiest way I can see if to put an ON/OFF switch in line with liftgate motor. If only I can get Jeep to send me the appropriate wiring diagram pages... it'd be an easy fix. Anybody here have the Service Manual?

I have a 7inch hitch extension which allows the gate to open unimpeded with bikes on my t2 (no need to tilt) and also when the rack is folded (again, no need to tilt). This is with mountain bikes and wide handlebars. I highly recommend.

Great idea! That may work with some Jeep models. Which model do you have?

This is the extension I bought. Just long enough for the handlebars to clear the tailgate and for the trail folded to clear.

Re: Platform style hitch bike rack

Resurrecting this thread for hitch rack enthusiasts. I love my Kuat Sherpa rack, but admit it's a little pricey. I still think platform racks are the way to go. Kuat has just come out with a budget rack, so I thought I'd post a link.
