Possible option for black mirror caps

Searching around the inter webs and came across replacement or aftermarket jeep mirrors. They can be had for around 100.00 for the pair. Not real good at posting pics or inserting links but the aftermarket part number is CH1320330 and CH1321330. They come black and says paint to match or install as is. Just wondering if anyone has bought these mirrors? Just looking to get them for the caps. I am not sure if the cap on these is the same as factory mirror or they attach the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Possible option for black mirror caps

found them on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Depo-333-5404L...art/B00HD9UPFG

I think you can buy just the caps, but the install looked like a pain when I looked into it. I ended up plastidipping mine and haven't looked back.

Installation is easy. Pop the mirror off and undo a screw or two and you're done :-)

Re: Possible option for black mirror caps

Most people I've seen on these forums say that you can not buy just the caps. You need the whole mirror assembly. I may just get these to see if it can be done. I want to do gloss black on them to match the rest of the gloss black accents on my truck. I know people have painted over chrome before with good results and some not so good results. The mirror does take a beating so I am really not wanting to paint over chrome if I can. This seems to be a pretty good option. If the black finish on these new mirrors looks good I may just apply some 2K high gloss clear and install. My only worry is are the caps attached the same way factory caps are? After that I could throw my chrome caps on the new mirrors and maybe get some of my money back selling them on Ebay.

Re: Possible option for black mirror caps

The description says "paint to match". Does that mean they are just paint grade? I looked at them to see if any had the Chrysler brilliant black paint code (PXR) but didn't see it.

Re: Possible option for black mirror caps

There's quite a few vendors that are selling these mirrors. Some say they are manufactured by Action Crash or others. One site does say paint to match or install as is. I am pretty sure the smooth black finish on the caps is a primer of some kind. No big deal for me as I can apply gloss black and clear if needed. So to answer your question, I believe these are paint ready if you want to paint them body color.

I second this. Plastidipping is an inexpensive way to see if you like the look and it is fairly durable. If you like the look and want something more durable, then buy the caps.

Re: Possible option for black mirror caps

It would be cool if some company came out with readily available pre-painted OEM mirror caps. I would buy a set of white ones just to change as my mood desires lol. They are easy enough to change out so it would be cool to have a spare set and easily be able to put the original chrome ones back on.

I assumed as of now the cheapest way to get an extra set painted would be to buy the OEM accessory chrome caps and have them painted. I would imagine painting the chrome is not a big deal to most shops as the surface would have to be prepped anyway. Get the pair for less than 100 bucks, then have them painted for less than a hundred.

Re: Possible option for black mirror caps

Well ordered the aftermarket mirrors on a Wed and they were here on Fri. Total was 90.00 shipped to my door. The covers are gloss black and fit perfectly on my OEM mirrors. So if you are looking into changing out your chrome mirror caps this option may be for you. These new caps can be painted body color as well. I plan to put my chrome caps on the aftermarket mirrors and sell them hoping to get most of my money back.

I popped mine off and hit me with about $15 worth of oem color matched spray paint I scooped at oreillys.

Pretty drastic difference. Well worth the $15 and 2 hours of my time.

What brand of paint did you use? Was it premixed or did you have a can made? Thanks
