I had been meaning to so I just threw one together. Once the mod approves, it will be under "Tech Tips/DIY/How To."

Re: Power Folding Mirrors?

I am going to dive in to this project and let you guys know if it works or not. I have had a cracked passenger mirror housing forever and have been waiting for this info to try out the power folding mirrors.

Re: Power Folding Mirrors?

Got the switch, it is just as shown and has the fold mirror button. Install took seconds, pop out the old, unhook, hook up new, put back in.

The mirror is on order, so it could be a while before I get it. Trying to get a status.

I was going to order the export mirror, but at the last second remembered that the exports had the turn marker on the body, not the mirror. Kinda sucks b/c the export mirror is "in stock" on some sites.

Re: Power Folding Mirrors?

Maybe this may give us some hope

".....Vehicles manufactured for certain export markets are equipped with a power folding mirror option that includes another motor and drive unit in each outside mirror and a power folding mirror switch button located between the right and left power mirror selector buttons in the driver door power switch module. Each time the momentary power folding mirror switch button is depressed, both outside rear view mirrors are cycled from folded to unfolded, or from unfolded to folded. If the vehicle is equipped with the optional memory system, the driver side mirror head also contains both a horizontal and a vertical motor position sensor. When the memory set procedure is carried out, the memory module learns the outputs of the mirror position sensors so that those positions can be recalled later."

Re: Power Folding Mirrors?

Are there existing physical wires for the fold motors already present in the door harness (going to the mirror)? Or, is there a common "bus" for some type of digital signaling over fewer wires?

I guess one question would be: Are there more contacts on the new switch panel than on the original panel? If so, are there enough wires in the mating connector on the vehicle to match every contact on the new panel?

My fear is, since power-folding mirrors weren't even an option in the 2011-2012 models (North America), does the vehicle harness have the conductors for the function? Of course you can run more wires, as this is self-contained within the door. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any reason the vehicle would require a flash to activate this function, as the memory positioning mentioned in the previous post should just be for the position of the glass (already present in the vehicle).

Re: Power Folding Mirrors?

Once the correct switch and power mirrors are installed a systems bus flash may be required to get everything to work as designed. I guess thekoy will know soon enough and tell us how it all worked out??

I would think all the harness wires would be present but not really sure if thats true, as the power folding switch would have to have additional electrical contacts in it to connect to any additional power folding harness wiring. The 2011~2012 export model WK2's had this feature so all WK2 builds may have it!

I was trying to determine if a similar export only independantly operated rear foglight retrofit could be installed in North American WK2's...... I found the headlight/foglight switches to be the same for both export & North American builds with a systems bus flash required to make it all work! The local dealers I approached couldn't/wouldn't help me with the export flash required to do this!

Does that mean you are only getting one (drivers side) folding mirror, or are you planning to install both??

Re: Power Folding Mirrors?

I don't think that it is because they couldn't or wouldn't but they are not aware.

The tech only know what that have been trained. As far as export parts go they can pull up a part number but the STARparts administrator locks out US dealers for placing orders for export parts so if the 2013 Summit did not have this feature (power folding mirrors) you would not be able to activate it.

It takes a Repair tech with the knowledge and courage to mess with the settings to entertain your request.

Dealerships have too much to worry about everybody already thinks that the tech are doing more damage to their cars than good so they will shy aways for things like this.

We will either learn by trial and error or someone with factory access will have to tell us what needs to be done.

It seems the keys to all of these power related functions are locked in the TIPM so we need someone that knows the different configurations of the TIPM do get these features working.
