Power liftgate won't stay open

Hello,
The liftgate will open, then creep down slowly in the cold weather. Works fine in my garage.
I'm thinking I have a bad liftgate strut and am wondering if anyone knows where to get the part the cheapest? Also, The left side is larger(the powered one), is there a way to figure out if that needs replaced too or just the right side strut needs replaced?
Thanks

Had that happen on manual liftgate in my 2005 (or was it 2006...) especially when cold out or snow on it. Just did a google search to find the cheapest OEM. Since mine wasn't a powered liftgate can't be too much help.

Twin Cities, MN resident here.
Which includes sub-zero temps during the winter.

I've never had a problem with the tail gate slowly lowering no matter the temps.

I would recommend looking for a part number on the hydraulic strut (small diameter) and then looking for an aftermarket replacement (Google is your best friend!).

Replace that one first, if that doesn't help, they you will probably have to replace the power strut, but I'm willing to bet it's the smaller hydraulic strut that has failed.

I ended up getting my local dealer to match the online prices. Just ordered the right side, hoping it fixes it.

You should also consider getting the strut re-gassed. Iv'e had it done in Aus a couple of times on different gas struts and they have held up well.. excuse the pun..

We have a few options and location around Aus.. The last outlet I used was from strutregas was in Newcastle and the primary focus of the business was aircon and fridge repairs. Struts was just another small function of the business.

Anyhow, it works a treat on the heavy dog kennel roof out in the weather and it's still going strong after its repair 4 years ago.....
