UPDATE: Added Vanity Bulb replacement

As some members have asked, this is what I have assembled thus far in trying to convert the regular bulbs to LED. I haven't personally been able to do the swaps yet, however they have all been obtained from various forum posts from members who have done swaps here and there. As I find out more, I'll add to this list. Since we have come to find out the manual for interior bulbs is incorrect, Its not as easy as using the original part number from the manual. For example the interior cargo part number in the manual is 214-2 which is a fuse style bulb. I took the bulb out, and it is NOT a fuse style bulb, but like the interior footwell bulb, a 194. Not sure why there are discrepancies in the manual.

Note as a brighter alternative on the main reverse Putco now has the Neutron 7440, works well.

Jorde or anyone else yet been able to identify the correct replacement LED for the main rear/brake/flash and the main front turn/park that won't cause the hyper flash or throw a bulb code? Thanks.

I'm prepared to do the resistors but hoping to avoid it if possible: http://www.jeepgarage.org/showthread.php?t=17590&highlight=3157

Nothing yet sorry Moose, as you said all I have in the list is doing it the resistor way thus far. Will add the Neutron 7440 to the list as an ALT, they seem to even be cheaper!

J, checked with several LED firms, all stated the resistor is required. Will give it a go next month. Thanx for staying on this and consolidating the Wk2 parts into this thread. It's a really nice upgrade all the way around.

TTT for the many new members!

BTW I picked up a cheap set of pepbuys 194 for my license plate.. I've had to exchange them twice in a one week period. If the left bulb starting blinking then went out, then the right just went out! Hopefully the third pack is a charm.. So I don't highly recommend cheap bulbs or at least pepboys...

Dome lights yes, map lights no. I don't have the on the list because I have never received confirmation from anyone the exact replacement for them yet. I attempted to take the cover off but didn't want to snap it, so I put it back. Contact Steve at XenonDepot in the Vendors section, he may be able to get you a part number finally for the dome lights..

I just finally got around to installing my LED's I did the daytime running lamps, reverse lights, tail gate lamps and tail gate reverse lights... Tailgate took about 5 minutes, reverse lights took about 5 minute and the daytime running lamps took 2 minutes for passenger side and about 5 minutes for drivers side. For the drivers side, the snorkel comes off the air box without any tools, just take off the top of the air box, remove the snorkel and it gives you access to the daytime running lamp. Much easier then going through the wheel well in my opinion.

Also a FYI, I got the Neutron bulbs.. Im pretty sure my reverse lights allow me to see like an extra 20 feet at night on the camera. Damn are they bright! But so very cool

I tried the license plate leds, but I don't think this stuff is for me. They look too blue. My wife's BMW has LED license plate lights, and I've always thought they looked neat. So I parked the cars next to each other, and my WK2 looked just ghetto. I looked for some stuff near 4300K, maybe even up to 4700K or so, but I found nothing.

Any advice on removing the cover for the dome/map light area? Like others, i've been able to get half off but dont wanna snap the other plastic tab.

Dome lights are the 194 wedge style. Map lights are something diff and i wont want to replace those it looks like. Did anyone else have to remove their rear license plate when replacing the bulbs to get the plastic cover to swing all the way down and off??

#70 ·
I have a rear plate frame and can still get the covers off, just press the plate in a little if need be to get them to swing down enough to pull off.

I am not sure if you can remove the dome light covers, I know some people just pull it half way off, use needle nose pliers and change the bulbs that way..

Awesome, thanks. Will try that.

anyone try the newer NEUTRON bulbs from Putco? The ones that are supposed to have the brightest LEDs but are just three LEDs facing forward.

Want to make sure enough light will reflect in the housing and fill out the area nicely.

*EDIT: I should have specified that I am asking for the Daytime Running lights... wondering if forward facing LEDs are working out ok there.

Yes, thumbsup to the Neutron's, they are very sharp. I recall they went into the tailgate lenses so the rear facing LED's are perfect there with little to no need for the reflector angles.

It's a bit of a PITA to remove the tailgate panel but search around here for a few threads and photos, not bad once you get the hang of the plastic plugs/fasteners.

Ah, thanks man. I do want these for the reverse lights! Will hafta search for posts on that since i was wondering how we get to some of those housings back there.

I should have been clear and specified that i was asking for the daytime running lights. Wondering if the three LEDs firing forward will be able to make good use of the reflector and fill out the entire housing and not look weird.

Sorry, my bad.

CORRECTION: had to go back to Jorde's first post to recall.

DRL: 3157 Nova. They have a very slight white/blue light.

Main Rear Back Up: 7440 Neutron is perfect for this application and very bright for reverse.

Thanks moose!

I just ordered a bunch of lights from superbrightleds. Going try something different for the two interior bulbs on the liftgate. Will post here if it works out!

Hey, anyone got any advice for the glovebox light? I was looking and figured either pull it out with pliers like the dome lights or try to remove the glove box???

#76 ·
Theres a little string on the right side of the glove box which keeps it from falling down. Take that off it gives you alittle more to play. I was able to use my fingers to get it in and out. Also forgot, take off the right cover on the side of the dash when you open the door. Gives you the ability to use two hands.
