UPDATE: Added Vanity Bulb replacement

As some members have asked, this is what I have assembled thus far in trying to convert the regular bulbs to LED. As I find out more, I'll add to this list. Since we have come to find out the manual for interior bulbs is incorrect, Its not as easy as using the original part number from the manual. For example the interior cargo part number in the manual is 214-2 which is a fuse style bulb. I took the bulb out, and it is NOT a fuse style bulb, but like the interior footwell bulb, a 194. Not sure why there are discrepancies in the manual.

I have an all black interior and was thinking all red interior except for my overhead DVD player lights. It probably would look cool but not very efficient. Blue would be brighter but I'm not too crazy about it. I need to find another vendor other that KBcarstuff.com. These guys take forever to ship.

Xenon is a forum vendor and has a jeepgarage discount. He also handles all warranty claims, and they are done quickly without hassle. Sometimes a few dollars more if so is worth the extra mile in customer service at least in my experience with Steve so far. amazon is great and I praise them too but if a bulb blows after 30 days your going to putco not amazon.

I guess I am upset he told me twice one of his putco bulbs would fit the fog lights without modification and it simply wasn't true. I can't return it because the head of the bulb broke and fell inside the fog lens. :-(

Has anyone done a colored interior lighting other than white? I thought it would look bad ass in red, specially with an all black interior (have custom black katzkin)

I got the same story...the Putco 230001 series bulbs definitely do not fit securely in the OEM socket, even after trimming down tabs on the bodies as a few have suggested. Maybe my definition of secure is different from other members!

Man these reverse are bright... nice mod... The other liftgate LED's are definitively brighter than the halogens. I didn't take a picture but compared sides when I was replacing. I got all LED's in the rear except the licence plate. I fear it might affect the aftermarket rear view camera I have attached on one of the plate's screws. I wish the LED's that came with my taillight solutions kit were as bright or that I could drive with my reverse on all the time. :D

I ordered the front markers from amazon... how do you install these? Please don't tell me it has to be done thru that small hole on the wheel well?

I attached a few shots for those in doubt. (taken with my cell)

Looks like they changed the main reverse, tailgate reverse as well as the interior liftgate/cargo lights..

Hey guys... I just used the list on the first page of this thread and ordered main reverse (brightest), tailgate reverse, and tailgate lights. On the list there are two "main reverse" lights. I chose the brightest one... I edited my post and added a picture of the boxes.

I had already installed the tailgate brake/turn. There is a separate thread on that. The kit can be ordered from Taillightsolutions.com. (I'm not associated with them in any way, but they did provide great support and service)

As another member suggested to me, to install the tailgate lights, I opened the tailgate and popped out the interior from the bottom. I popped out all the clips at the bottom and a few of them on the sides. You don't need to take the whole thing out. You will see the back of the lights as soon as you start detaching the panel.

The only tricky part of this was to put the tail light lense back on with all the new wiring including resistors for the turn/brake LED's. The kit harness comes with the resistors attached, it's a truly plug and play install for the most part (no wire splicing, etc.).

Glad to contribute...

Glad I could help you open your wallet, looks like I've contributed to all those mods in one way or another....

Is there a DIY with pics for the drl install on the drivers side? I've upgraded every other light to LEDs but can't for the life of me figure out how to get to the drivers side drl, although it seems like it should be easy reading through this thread. Any help greatly appreciated...

JRue, to get to driver side DRL, you first need to remove the air filter box in front of it. Unlatch top, remove filter, remove any tube tie downs and c-clamps, and lift up firmly on bottom of air filter box which sits down on two rubber posts and bushings.

is it just held down by pressure fit, no more screws to remove?

KBcarstuff lists the Putco 287431A Neutron Amber 7443 LED Bulb as a direct replacement to the front main turn signals. However, this bulb triggers a dash error (bulb out) and also becomes lose unless you secure it with black tape or similar. This is the second time (fog lights) now that I purchase an LED bulb they claim is a direct replacement. I was smarter this time and purchased it from Amazon, so I am returning for a full refund including shipping.

The lights turn on but blink rapidly and trigger the warning message I guess due to this bulb being low wattage. I had to secure them with black tape because they would become lose and turn off.

I noticed that this part of the lens will filter the light output so the brightness of the LEDs was barely noticeable. My personal conclusion would be that it is not worth replacing the front main turn with brighter bulbs because the light output is limited by the lens (unlike the rears).

Hope this helps someone and saves them some money as well.

I have seen lots of posts people asking how to access these front turn signals; I even read someone claiming you have to remove the bumper. Here is how I got in:

Driver's side you can access from the round opeing in the wheel area. You don't need to remove the air filter. It's a tight fit, but you can get to it thru that hole. Once you disconnect the harness by turning it, you can pull the cable all the way out of the opening so you can easily replace the bulb. On the passanger side, I removed two screws that hold the coolant reserve container. After you remove these two screws at the top, you can push it to the side and access the bulb from the top.

The 2 dome lights are a 194 bulb, correct? I will update this list if someone can confirm.

I know this has already been asked a few times, but I didn't ever see an answer? (please correct me if im mistaken) Just curious if anyone had done interior footwell and other interior accent lighting in other colors besides white? Im thinking a blue glow would be awesome all around.. just curious.
Thanks,

XenonDepot ,

Took my Overland to a shop for tint, HID fogs (3000k), LED DRL's and De-badging and "HE" wanted to change my interior over to LED. I told him "ok, why not?" He did my Dome/Map light. I guess the Map lights are some sort of circuit board with an LED on it and a white ribbon wire. I can post pics if needed. Now may map light buttons don't work but when I turn on the interior lights they all light up white. It looks good but that's not the point. He sad he had to solder in an LED. I would have rather he left them alone or at least asked me. I really couldn't care less about interior lighting. He said he had to do it or when I opened the doors the yellow map lights wouldn't look right. So I guess my questions for you are....

1) When the doors open do the Map lights even come on if the buttons to turn them off have been pushed?

2) Should I put back in the OEM Map bulbs?

3) The shop didn't do the HID fogs cause he couldn't get the yellow bulbs in in time. What kit and bulb (Lemans Yellow color) do you recommend? I'll order yours if you provide a link.

4) The shop also didn't do the DRL's cause he said no one makes a bulb for them. I've read on here about people changing theirs anyway. Do you make a DRL bulb for the 12' Cherokees?

Thank you in advance

Hi,

1) I don't think that the map lights should turn on. I think that only the dome lights should turn on but I don't have a wk2 so if someone with one can chime in it would be appreciated.

2) It sounds like the guy put in a universal led dome light panel that does not fit properly which is why you can't push your lights in anymore.

3) Go with the Xtreme 5202 HID kit in 3000k:

http://www.kbcarstuff.com/Xtreme-Digital-HID-Kits-p/xt-hid.htm

4) You would need to get a 3157 LED bulb. I would suggest going with the white color.

Hope this helps,

Steve

Thanks jgc4ever, that makes me feel a little better. I guess the shop felt they had no other choice but to solder in a white LED bulb in place of the yellow Map light because it always came on when the doors opened. I haven't had my WK2 long enough to even notice (3 weeks). Trying to attach a pic of the OEM LED Map lights that were removed in case anyone was interested.
