Re: Quick: Should I Tip the Tinter?

supposedly $300 was a deal. i had the front two windows, the sunroof and the front windshield done. originally he said $290 but bumped it up when he saw the size of the pano roof - which, i get that.

i sort of think the whole tipping thing has gotten out of control but i still get conflicted at times. i think you pay for a service and if the person does something for you that is over and beyond, then you tip. i might give him $15 when i see how things cure in a few days. wish the shop wasn't so very far away.

Yeah I was gonna say the same thing, but let someone else say it first lol. I paid 60 bucks for my two front windows. I couldnt imagine paying $240+ more dollars for a simple sunroof and windhshield. That price was extremely high, and if you feel you needed to tip as well be my guest, I certainly wouldnt have.

Re: Quick: Should I Tip the Tinter?

Yeah I mean...$300 is a lot to tint an entire vehicle...

As for tipping, if its the owner no, if its a tint tech and I've had interaction with him specifically, then yes I'd tip him.

What film?

I paid $215 total for the front 2 windows and windshield in my area using a top of the line ceramic film. Of course carbon and dyed films are going to be cheaper.

FWIW, tinting the front 2 windows and windshield w/ carbon film was going to be $160 total, but it had a much lower heat rejection and the windshield was going to be 55% instead of 80%, which would be too dark for me.

I dont know exactly which film, but I do know he uses Llumar films. He has done probably 5 vehicles of mine, and I have recommended a few friends to him as well. Always perfect work so im happy, and the Llumar 20% film he used on my Jeep matches the rear oem tint very nicely.

Exactly. $300 seems quite reasonable around here for a quality film and install. I normally figure $200-300 depending in the size of the car and his many windows are factory tinted.

Re: Quick: Should I Tip the Tinter?

I gave the tinter a 50 dollar tip when I had the windshield and two front sides tinted. Dude did an awesome job.

You do good work for me, I appreciate it and tip you. Now when I go back to have ALL (except the windshield, redo at 35%) done in 5% I will be taken care of.

I see it as being cheap. IMO but hey what do I know? lol

Re: Quick: Should I Tip the Tinter?

I own a service shop...even though we are excpected to do a good job and we charge for that a few bucks to show grattitude or courtesy for a job well done is always appreciated... This is a complicated issue since we always see people in our shop with an attitude problem! If u don't tip it is fine and you will get great service but if you tip the guy maybe next time you'll get a bigger smile a thank you and even share a coke at the shop...its all about creating bonds with the people around town
