Re: Rack Cross Bars - Thule Fit Guide incorrect

I got my 47" cross bars this week and got everything installed. It fits and looks good, just like mofeen's pictures. Once I got it all up there I realized that it just isn't going to work out. My wife and I are just too short to get the kayaks up there without hurting ourselves or the Jeep. Probably going to end up with a micro-trailer instead.

I'm just going to pack them back into their original boxes and return them to REI.

Re: Rack Cross Bars - Thule Fit Guide incorrect

I just bought a 2011 Grand Cherokee and need to get cross bars.

For those of you that have gone the Thule route, about how much will I spend to get the Thule Aero bars, feet and fit kit for my WK2?

Thanks.

I spent about 420 with the fairing. Tried it with and without. Definitely get the fairing. Much quieter.

+1, try checking wind noise with the sunroof open to get the real benefit of the fairing. It is considerable, both noise and corresponding drag.

Re: Rack Cross Bars - Thule Fit Guide incorrect

Now that I've had a chance to drive 65mph, I see what people mean about the noise. It's like somebody's blowing across the top of a bottle.

I have the two bars separated as far as they can go. Has anybody done the research to find a position for the forward bar that cuts the noise? The instructions suggest this is possible, but it would take me several hours to test a range of positions.

I have the pano roof and so don't want to add a fairing. If I have to, I'll just leave off the rack except during kayak trips.

Re: Rack Cross Bars - Thule Fit Guide incorrect

On diagram 3 of the instructions it says the spread should be 700 mm which is close to 27.5 inches, or close enough. The diagram shows where in correlation to the window pillars it should be. This gave me the least amount of noise. When I spread the bars as far apart as possible the noise at least doubled as far as the volume of noise my ears could determine.

Re: Rack Cross Bars - Thule Fit Guide incorrect

I have the pano roof too. Sure the fairing does almost cut right through the middle of the open portion of the pano roof, but really isn't too much of an issue for me. The decrease in noise was well worth it for me. Everyone that ever gets in still compliments the beautiful interior and especially the pano.
