Re: radar detector mirror mount

Hey guy's I'm having a hard time getting the lower plastic cover off the mirror. Anyone have any pointers?

Also, I was thinking of tapping into the map light power but my MirrorTap is to short. If I get the lower cover off the mirror there is somewhere I can tap the power in the mirror correct?

Re: radar detector mirror mount

I mounted my V1 up high above the mirror and just to the left of the overhead console using the stock suction mount. I ran a power cable from the OBD-II port up around through the pillar and under the front of the headliner.

Re: radar detector mirror mount

My mirror came off while installing it and no matter what I tried I couldn't get it to snap back in place. I took it to the dealership and said it just fell off. My first failed mod. The sad part was that I already had the wires tapped and it was working fine. I had to take it off and play dumb since my Altitude is only 2 wks old.

You need to insert it a bit tilted counter clock and turn clockwise, it kinda locks in…I have some pictures that I can put up for you…I also had issues at first, took a few tries before I got it right…Funny, cause I thought I would bring it back to dealer saying it had fell….

OMG I was trying to push it straight on... I still have the cable, but I'm terrified to try again. LOL.

Re: radar detector mirror mount

No, you really need to be in an angle say 10-11'clock and turn to 12....once you go for the 10-11 you will feel that the mirror is completely flat against the windshield. Hey, remove it and try to put it back before tapping your wires. if you really can't, for whatever reason, you can always go back to the dealer and tell them ''...it fell off again! '' LOL, but seriously, don't be worried, super easy once you figured out how to start hooking it back up...let me know how it goes...send me a PM if you have issues, I'll make a small video for ya...

Going back to the dealer, you could also ask them to show you if it happens again....

Re: radar detector mirror mount

A Dremel to the map/dome light makes for a nice custom install that you can't see from outside the vehicle (no more removing every time you get in/out).

Are you using a remote display? Don't you also completely obscure the rear-facing radar horn this way? It does look nice though.

Re: radar detector mirror mount

Using the concealed display in the mirror and remote audio controller I don't have to touch the V1. The rear facing detection isn't changed since everything in the dome/map light housing is plastic.
