Rear Sport Bumper Diffuser

It has long bugged me that the stock rear bumper cover acts as a parachute under the rear of the car doing nothing at all for the aerodynamics. What is required is diffuser that does what it is supposed to do as in this link The Physics of Diffusers: How to Make a Car Really Suck – Feature – Car and Driver . I note that Just For Jeeps is selling one, see Rear Sport Bumper Diffuser for Jeep Grand Cherokee – Item # 82212680 #82212680AB[gallery]/2/ . My concern is that this is just a bit of over priced Micky Mouse plastic trim to give a fake GT look. All the posts I read talk only about the "look" and not performance even to the extent of referring to it as a "valance". Can someone please confirm that this diffuser extends far enough under the vehicle so that it may have some beneficial aerodynamic effect? Pics underneath would be great.

Re: Rear Sport Bumper Diffuser

Bob you are far too optimistic or generous in your assessment. I have no doubts that this component is complete rice and does nothing regarding the problem you detail.

I'm worried that a stick deflected by a rear wheel will catch the bumper skin. That'd be a nice mess...

Re: Rear Sport Bumper Diffuser

I see an excuse to fit the >$2k long range fuel tank coming on.

Yeah, that'll work although I'm not sure I can justify a long range tank on the east coast.
