Re: Red start button?

well...seems like a few of you guys wanted to see what this looks like so I dropped by the shop that's replacing my engine...and I dropped in the red start button

it literally took me 10 minutes and only requires the following tools:

Socket wrench with a 7mm socket
T10 Hex head screw driver

Start with opening the lower door on the dash....the one that has the usb card input and cig lighter inside it

then grab the center dash trim and give it a yank outward...this will completely loosen the entire center dash trim...the top of the trim will get hung up a little but if you're careful and pull around the edges you can pop off the entire trim in 10 seconds...I took pics of the back of the trim so you can see that's its all held on by a bunch of little orange clips...no need to use a trim tool.
There is 1 plug that needs to be disconnected and you can remove the entire assembly from the vehicle

once that's off you will be able to see the back of the start button...you will need to remove the 2x 7mm socket head bolts to remove the entire start button assembly ...one is exposed but the other is behind the center steering wheel trim...you just need to grab that trim and pop it outward a little ..it comes right off ...once you do that it will expose the other 7mm bolt that holds the start button assembly in place.

once you remove the bolts you can remove the entire start button assembly...take it to the bench and remove the 2 x T10 torx headed screws that hold the button onto the trim..once you remove that retaining clip the button comes right off...from there you just reassemble

took me 10 minutes or less...from start to finish

here's the pics

Re: Red start button?

Now you gave it away.

I can't even see my start button, the steering wheel is in the way.

Re: Red start button?

thanks for this detailed in.

the uconnect trim - is there some trick to pulling this off? i tried, it seems like it will break in half, its not budging. i pulled up a little bit and an orange clip went flying off. im not about to break a $500 part for this red button mod. but i want the red button ! i need the red button ! hahaha

seriously, how should i get this uconnect trim off? hair dryer to heat it up maybe?

or just break it and take it back to dealer under warranty and make them replace it?

If you look at my pics you'll see what the back of the trim looks like

There's no trick

The key is to get around the edges so that you're pulling as "straight" out as possible

The clips will let go if pulled straight out ..I removed mine in about 10-20 seconds by just yanking carefully

I've found that most of the interior parts sound like they're going to snap but they just don't

When I removed the overhead console I was just as scared as you ..but just pull harder and it'll all come out ..just like this center trim

If you need help just call or text me ..be happy to assist

Re: Red start button?

ok thanks man. I did pull straight out, very carefully, and it already broke 2 clips. Not sure if entire tab broke off back side, or just the orange clip came off but definitely heard a horrible snap sound. I wonder if the Jeep dealer will question it if I bring it in with a red button and tell them the center trim mysteriously rattles and I found a few orange clips on carpet ...

Re: Red start button?

I got it done ! Check out the pic, looks pretty sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Oh and incase anyone manages to break off or loose any of the little orange clips on the back of that center bezel like i did, you can just buy these :

Part Number: 06510407AB

https://www.jeeppartsoverstock.com/p...6510407AB.html

They are white, but otherwise same dimensions and fit great. If you go to Jeep and try to buy the orange 1s, they will quote you $735 for a whole new center trim panel. Just FYI.

I got the billet SRT pedals installed too, along with Charger ebrake pedal. Those came out perfect as well. 2 for 2 !

Thanks for all help !!

Re: Red start button?

looks good!

it's a bit scary yanking on these plastic pieces and hearing them crack ...but i've yet to break anything ...the dash is actually pretty simple to tear down...I'm considering upgrading to all the SRT carbon trim pieces now...but they're just so damn expensive...I'm trying to see if I can find them from a salvage yard somewhere

Re: Red start button?

oooh show pics of those srt carbon trim panels

my overland already has the black wood trim, looks pretty tasteful already but carbon fiber always looks best!

i actually really like how the red start button contrasts the black wood trim now. the stock black button was too hidden for such a freakin cool item !

i will now sell the following, let me know what you think this stuff is worth :

2 - OEM start buttons, both pretty new, only a few weeks on them
2 sets - OEM floor mats, new
2 sets - brake/ebrake pedal covers - pretty new

this stuff worth anything ?
