I think you would be better if you just applied a thick sticker on your original one,
If I remember correctly, i saw a picture from a forum member here (Nathan ?) that created some quality wonderful ones.
Look for him and enjoy

looks like this can be installed in about 20 mins...pop out the trim around the uconnect screen...then remove 4 bolts to get the screen out....you can then access the button to push down the tabs that hold it in place.
I just ordered the button so as soon as it comes in I'll let you know what's involved in swapping it ...unfortunately I think I may have ordered the wrong one...but I'll get it figured out
Here you go...I picked up the "red " button yesterday but I won't have time to get it installed for a few days as my Jeep is in the shop right now getting my new custom engine installed
but I can at least verify that this is the proper part # for the order/upgrade
well...seems like a few of you guys wanted to see what this looks like so I dropped by the shop that's replacing my engine...and I dropped in the red start button
it literally took me 10 minutes and only requires the following tools:
Socket wrench with a 7mm socket
T10 Hex head screw driver
Start with opening the lower door on the dash....the one that has the usb card input and cig lighter inside it
then grab the center dash trim and give it a yank outward...this will completely loosen the entire center dash trim...the top of the trim will get hung up a little but if you're careful and pull around the edges you can pop off the entire trim in 10 seconds...I took pics of the back of the trim so you can see that's its all held on by a bunch of little orange clips...no need to use a trim tool.
There is 1 plug that needs to be disconnected and you can remove the entire assembly from the vehicle
once that's off you will be able to see the back of the start button...you will need to remove the 2x 7mm socket head bolts to remove the entire start button assembly ...one is exposed but the other is behind the center steering wheel trim...you just need to grab that trim and pop it outward a little ..it comes right off ...once you do that it will expose the other 7mm bolt that holds the start button assembly in place.
once you remove the bolts you can remove the entire start button assembly...take it to the bench and remove the 2 x T10 torx headed screws that hold the button onto the trim..once you remove that retaining clip the button comes right off...from there you just reassemble
the uconnect trim - is there some trick to pulling this off? i tried, it seems like it will break in half, its not budging. i pulled up a little bit and an orange clip went flying off. im not about to break a $500 part for this red button mod. but i want the red button ! i need the red button ! hahaha
seriously, how should i get this uconnect trim off? hair dryer to heat it up maybe?
or just break it and take it back to dealer under warranty and make them replace it?
