The pics I posted are not for the "Jeep" chrome piece but the step pad surround on the top of the rear bumper that protects the opening into the cargo area.

Re: Removing liftgate chrome strip

Here's some close up photos showing the inside of the rear chrome strip and the wiring carriage underneath it (there are two plastic pieces to the strip, plus wiring for the lights, and the camera if it is that version).

I haven't yet tried to take off my original chrome strip and replace with this painted version, as the replacement will need to be retrofit for the backup camera, or I'll just pull off the exterior strip and mount it to the camera carriage.

If anyone can tell from these photos how the strip may come off the rear and remount to the liftgate, please chime in. Thanks.

looks like the inside hatch panel would need to be removed to access the nuts

Re: Removing liftgate chrome strip

I agree this is one of the things that needs to come out and get color matched, more in depth write up on removal would be awesome.

I am having my mirror caps, grill and rear chrome "JEEP" strip color matched in the next week or so.

That is what I would do if I owned a WK2 That chrome piece what I do not like about the rear of the WK2 looks like all the other SUv and minivans. Paint it to match. Would look sweet.

I will post pics of mine when it is all color matched (minus the chrome door handles). Probably in a week or two.

Ding, ding, ding.

Doh, I shoulda known this as I pulled the hatch cover for the LED install.

Will give it a shot this weekend, thanks S.

EDIT: Turns out the chrome strip is a very careful pry job away from the wiring chassis it is mounted to. The nuts do not connect the two pieces together, but the clips and 6 adhesive patches do. It took me 20 minutes of careful prying to get my painted part away from the chassis, though it may be easier to get it off the car after the hot sun softens both the plastic clips/tabs and adhesive. Will give that a go this weekend.
