Replace Cabin Air Filter --- Just Do It!!!

Now, there's a slight whistle coming from my vents with the AC on full tilt (it's summer in AZ). Whistle disappears with recirc on so I'm think it's something with the new cabin air filter. Ideas?

Saw this in an Amazon review for the FRAM CF11183 filter:

"Easy to install. A whistle at first but went away. Saved at least $8 by not buying at the store."

Re: Replace Cabin Air Filter --- Just Do It!!!

Purchased the FRAM CF11183 filter from Amazon and used Prime to get it in 2 days. It took me seriously 3 minutes to replace. Popped out the upper shelf where I have the Jeep manual sit. Simple. Opened the filter door. Easy. Replaced and put everything back together. Done.

Old filter was definitely dirty. Time to breath easy now!

Re: Replace Cabin Air Filter --- Just Do It!!!

Just bought my 2011 grand cherokee a week ago. I noticed a whistle coming from the vents. When I searched the forum, this thread came up eluding to the cabin filter. Thinking it was clogged I pulled it out... It was newer. However it was crinkled pretty bad. It appears whoever replaced it, didn't fully seat the filter in the opening, and when they put the cover they forced it shut. This created an inward, V shape crinkle, [> ] along the edge facing the driver side. I just ordered a new one to see if this corrects the whistle.

If that's the case, the dealer charges $65.00 to replace it. Not much savings in DIY.

Ya that's why nobody bought them during the restricted availability... The Fram CF11183 is readily available on Amazon now for $22 delivered.

That's worth it. For a $45.00 savings, I'll play with plastic tabs for 5 minutes.

Re: Replace Cabin Air Filter --- Just Do It!!!

Stock is non charcoal for the gas engines but if you want to upgrade to the charcoal one it is 68260792AA, here for $23 if you do ebay

Mopar 68260792AA | eBay

OEM charcoal one is supposed to get rid of minor smells and doesn't cost much more then the non charcoal OEM. I use the charcoal and change every 10k either filter gets dirty quicker than you would think they would

Ya the Fram has charcoal and Arm&Hammer baking soda gimmick? Who knows but either way it and the Mopar charcoal are worth the extra $.

Can't you just spray some Glade on it before you put it in? I always spray my home A/C filters with Endust before I install them. They really catch more dust and dirt.

Re: Replace Cabin Air Filter --- Just Do It!!!

First off thanks to the OP for posting this thread. And thanks for all the filter recommendations. Since I'm a Prime member it was a no-brainer to go with the $23 Fram with the charcoal and baking soda. I didn't notice a bad small before, but after putting in the new filter and turning on the vents there was a noticeable fresh smell, not a fragrance, just a clean air smell. Kind of hard to describe, but you get the picture.

Mine came in the mail yesterday and I replaced it in under 5 minutes. Attached is what the old stock filter looked like after 30K miles. Pretty nasty. the second picture is a close up of the gunk down in the crevice.

They get nasty quick, I have been changing them at 10k instead of the prescribed 20k and I don't live in a dusty environment, primarily suburban driving.
