Re: Replacing horns....

Those Hella Supertone's are a great upgrade... They are well made kits & very reliable for many years...
They are attention getting loud, too.

I have installed at least 4 sets of them in all my past Toyota trucks over the last 25 years or so, remembering when they were less than $40. too!

However, a couple of items to consider for a JGC:

1) I must say that their dual-tone while loud, is definitely on the european or import side of a horn... I wouldn't exactly call it a Detroit sound.

2) Also keep in mind that those bright red housings will show-up behind the JGC grilles if you don't re-mount or paint black to hide them.

Re: Replacing horns....

i remember in grad school i switched out the weak Japanese beep, beep horns on my pathfinder with ones from a chevy truck - so much nicer.

BTW: how much of a decibel difference is the Hella's versus our current OE horns?

Re: Replacing horns....

Hard to really say...

I would 'guesstimate' that the Hella's are about 20-30% stronger/louder than stock.

Can't really feel a decibel difference, but there is definitely a 'louder, take-notice' feeling!

i was looking at the horns, looks like a very simple replacement- only thing is popping the front grill off, not sure how many clips it's held in by. (any advice in removing the front grill?)

also the OE horns is facing downward and I like the Hella's that's front firing for a louder sound

Re: Replacing horns....

No sorry, have not looked at anything front grille removal-wise yet...

But I'm sure we have got to have a thread here in the garage for that.

Re: Replacing horns....

I heard the hronblasters setup yesterday also. While amusing for the first blast I must admit its fekking annoying and not even funny after the first one lol.

Ill pass on the train horns and air blasters lol.

The electric air horns that are on the market are kinda interesting.

Although this air horn here which I find totally amusing I would put a tank and compressor somewhere for this one. It sounds like a firengine horn and this would accomplish the mission... GTFOutta the way!!! lol

Don't forget about PIAA as another option.
