Guys that have installed the Putco plasmas say its like HID headlights...So I'm not sure where you got that info, but I would say the output would be very similar between the two. Heat wont be an issue, remember these are LEDs. Yes they can get warm, but the old bulb is a filament bulb which gets downright hot. Plus, even if the LED bulbs got hot, just how long do you plan on driving in reverse? lol

Yes absolutely, the output of the Philips 921 and the Sylvania Zevo 7440 was great, but there was an ever so slight color difference between the two even though they were both advertised as 6000k. Most people would have been fine with them, but I have weird OCD issues lol. But again, yes they were bright enough. Infact, I ended returning the Sylvania Zevo bulbs and was running JUST the inner Philips 921 reverse lights and even just though provided enough light by themselves. I think thats how the import WK2 is anyway as the outer lenses are dedicated turn signals, so those don't even have reverse lights in the outer lens.
I installed the VLed's 7440 on my buddies WK2 with the Phillips 921's...when compared to my Putco 7440's they were SLIGHTLY brighter and very similar in hue to the Phillips 921's. Yes, they are brighter than the Putco 7440's...BUT they are also as much if not more expensive and are much larger (they fit, BARELY)!

I think the Putco Plasma 921/7440 is a great combo...please post up some pics when you get a chance!

Re: Reverse LED question with pictures.

There's 2 different bulbs needed for the inside and outside reverse lights?

Yep. Outer set pull the pins inside the hatch area. Then pop the whole fixture out
Inside don't touch the 10mm nuts, remove the inside hatch panel
