Re: Reverse LED question with pictures.

Or there's always ebay... where all of these bulbs come from - China.

2X New 7443 7440 6000K White High Power 30W Tail Brake Reverse LED Light Bulbs | eBay

http://www.ebay.com/itm/351104541822...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

$20.50 for all 4. I'll post pics when I get them.

They look good are they significantly brighter than the stock? Also do you have to remove the inner hatch trim piece to get to the inner bulbs or do they swing out if you remove those two bolts on the edge of the hatch? I know the outers are easy just not sure about the inners. Thanks

Re: Reverse LED question with pictures.

^^^ yes, to access inner bulbs the hatch panel needs to be removed. Sounds like a pain but it's actually very simple. Just get your finger behind an edge and it just pops right out. Full access to everything back there. When reinstalling you just want to make sure all the push pins are lined up in the holes otherwise it won't seat perfectly.

Re: Reverse LED question with pictures.

XD had them for $96 shipped so I went a head and got them. I have had that hatch trim off before hunting a rattle but I broke some of those cheap plastic clips so I think I have some extras around I hope. taking it off was not bad it was aligning the clips and squashing some of them putting it back on just hope I don't introduce any new rattles.

They are MUCH brighter than stock...it is not even close! And yes, rear trim needs to be removed. I suggest starting on a corner with a plastic trim removal tool and popping off a corner. That way you can see where all the mounting/clips are located and just pull it off with consistent pressure (having two people helps a lot). I do suggest having a couple extra clips as two of mine did break upon removal. I have a very dark driveway and it lights up like an Xmas tree now (blurred photo of the Nav screen, but that gate is over 100 feet away and uphill...)

Re: Reverse LED question with pictures.

The $20 eBay bulbs match in my opinion and are plenty bright. Why spend $100 on 4 bulbs that cost the manufacturer $4 to make...

I can't answer to the life of them, but I've been using eBay bulbs for years now and the only issues I've had was on the 194 bulbs. However all my interior in the Jeep have been going strong for the last year.

Why buy anything that is less expensive to make than to buy? Oh that is right, $70k SRT...I think I will spring for the $100's in bulbs. Been both routes, and for my lows/highs/fogs and any visible interior bulb I will always go with the quality/warranty over price. On the WK1 there were a couple over-head fires due to cheap bulbs...and my 08' had all lights replaced for 7 years and the new owner says everything is still going strong. That is the great thing about life: choices!

I do agree the mark-up is quite high...but again warranty and customer service trump pricing for me any day

Re: Reverse LED question with pictures.

Installed the Putco reverse lights 921 and 7440 today. Was a quick easy job, I noticed the Putcos seemed to fit a little looser and more top heavy than the stock hopefully they wont work their way loose on extreme bumps. I'm sure they will be fine just an observation. They definitely look bright, have not tried them at night yet but im sure they will be an improvement. Nice bright white color, look similar color to the OEM LED SRT fogs I put in.

A 7443 bulb has 2 filaments, high (brake) and low (tail/marker), usually 25 and 5 watts.

A 7440 bulb has a single filament @ 21watts

So if you use a 7443 LED bulb in a 7440 socket, you would get the 'low' circuit and it wouldn't be very bright.

You are better off looking for a specific 7440/W21W LED bulb that can be distinguished by having a single wire on each side of the bulb base. A 7443 bulb as 2 wires on each side of the bulb base.

I have the Phillips Vision 921 white LED bulbs in my tailgate reverse sockets:
https://www.amazon.com/Philips-Brigh...dp/B00P2D41OQ/

Haven't decided yet what I'm going to use for the main reverse lights.
These look promising for almost half of the Putco LEDs:
https://www.amazon.com/JDM-ASTAR-Ext...dp/B00XB96OSO/
JDM ASTAR seems to have pretty high satisfaction with their LED bulbs.
Yes, I'm quoting myself...
Ordered the JDM ASTAR bulbs on Sunday.
I'll have them on Wednesday.
The outer housings are so easy to remove I'll probably install them Wednesday night.

One step I highly recommend after installing ANY LED reverse light...
Power on your Jeep (you don't have to start the engine) and then put the Jeep into reverse (park brake on for safety) and see what your reverse video camera does.

I had one set of 921 bulbs that interfered with the backup camera, Amazon made returning them for full refund easy.
