Review of 3M Paint Defender

I picked this up at the local Autozone. It's $24.99 per can and they say 1 can for the bumper, 2 cans for the full hood, etc. Its pretty much like clear plasti coat. I ended up doing both mirror caps, front half of the hood, front bumper and grill and then front edge of front fenders. It did take a lot of time to mask off the mirrors and bumpers the rest was pretty easy to mask off and cover. They say 3-4 continuous coats. Which I did apply a lot of the product on but still have about 1/3 of a can each left. I didn't have time to take any pictures of the masking because it was getting dark and chance of rain. It does have a different texture to it and its pretty matte looking. You can't tell that anything is different from a distance but up close you can see the line on the hood/fenders. The mirrors, bumper and grill hides the matte look better. I'm not really that happy with the results. I did take a nice road trip around 400 miles, so it got a lot of dirt and bugs on it. I didn't see any rock dings so I cant comment on that yet. As far as clean up there're really not much difference. But I did notice that the bug stains wouldn't come clean, I rubbed a spot and the film started to tear. We'll see how long this lasts, I really don't see how this is going to hold up a whole year. I'm am curious if anyone else has tried it and get their thoughts about it.

My tips:
1. Take your time, prep/masking is key
2. Do it away from wind (in garage)
3. Follow the instructions and let it cure (I do agree with waxing it first)
4. Go slow when spraying or you'll get blobs (not good)
5. I don't know if maybe I didn't put enough coats on but removal isn't that easy and it does break/ball up
6. GooGone helps remove it if needed

Re: Review of 3M Paint Defender

Thanks for the review. I had seen this on the 3m website and I planned to order a can to do my rear bumper, but now I think I will hold off on the purchase.
