Roof basket with off road lighting

So, did fogs lights, mud guards now on to roof basket. What's your folks thoughts on best one? I don't have cross bars, do I need them. Totally want to wire it for lighting. Does hole have to be cut in roof? So if y'all get a minute lay it on me. Best quality one and one with built in lights or route to take. Appreciate folks. Be safe

Re: Roof basket with off road lighting

If you can afford it, the Gobi seems to be a crowd favorite.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE WK STEALTH RACK WITH SUNROOF | Gobi Racks

Rocky Road makes a great looking one too;

I already had the Mopar crossbars, so I found a Thule roof basket on craigslist and went that route for the time being.

Cheers!

Gobi routes wires inside the rack to the back hatch, but runs switch wiring in by the driver door.ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512774.442519.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512795.230882.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512841.655012.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512890.408108.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512927.997594.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512961.033794.jpgImageUploadedByJeepGarage1472512988.399508.jpg

That looks sweet. Exactly what I'm looking for as far as lights and set up.

Nice setup, BigCat. Did you go up to Aurora for them to install it? If so how long did it take?

echo7tango - yes I was one of their first WK2 customer installs of the rack and their first install and wiring of the lightbars on a Wk2 (couple years ago now) so total time was about 5 hours then.

They don't charge to install their racks but I did pay for the wiring.

Anyone know a reputable place in Massachusetts to do wiring for basket lights?

I thought I recognized their place. I stopped in last March when I was passing through on a road trip. They had an H2 and a small mini-ute out front with racks to look at. It's nice to see it on a WK2. They make a good quality rack. Thank you for your pictures, and for this.

How do you like the setup of your rack and its lights? Any downsides to them? What about the switches? It really looks nice and I am strongly considering the same setup.

I'm happy with the whole setup. I like the ability to remove the section of the rack over the sunroof when not needed for storage. I have 2 spot patterned bars in the center front and a flood pattern on each outside front bars with separate switches for spot or flood. Both back lightbars are flood/spot hybrids on another combined switch. There are more LED lightbar options available now but I'm happy with what I have.
No regrets other than can't really clean or wax the roof under the rack well but I do prefer how it is fully integrated with its own rails and that it is attached to the roof rather than sitting on top of separate bars.

Re: Roof basket with off road lighting

When I visited Gobi in Aurora I posted some pictures (here - WK2 Rack Systems: Manufacturers List). My white WK2 can be seen in the background of one pic, it's backed in to a parking space in front of their building.

BigCat, that is pretty cool that yours was their first WK2 rack. That must've been a bit of a leap of faith on your part? Was that your first Gobi experience?

Re: Roof basket with off road lighting

First "customer" install - they had done their demo vehicle and test fit already, so I knew that they knew what they were doing, and I had friends that had Gobi racks installed on their Wranglers.
Here are my before and after pics in their parking lot- recognize the yellow Hummer in the background of the before pic?
