Re: Roof Rack

Curious, what made you choose the longer Aero bars? On the Thule fit guide, they recommend the 47 inchers. Just wondering if the longer bars may be contributing to the excess wind noise as well.

Also, for those with the Mopar rack, are the crossbars the same as the Thule Aero bars? Reason I ask is, if they are, I may get the Mopar rack if my Thule Bike carriers can directly mount to them with adapters.

Re: Roof Rack

just installed the 47" Thule aero crossbars with 44" fairing and it looks amazing. The 47" bars are the right fit in my opinion. The only reason to get longer bars would be if you have a large canoe and a kayak you needed to transportat the same time. Dont skimp..buy the aero bars not the square bars. They look so much better.. The fairing does block about 6" of the pano roof when open. No real wind rattling etc. PM me for tips on installing fairing if you have trouble because it takes some adjusting to make it look right. Dont go bigger on the fairing than 44". I will try to post some picks later. The vent on the pano roof can be opened without harming fairing as well. The Thule system looks class if you do it right. FYI

The cross bars are very different from each other. The Thule Aero bars are about a 2" oval shaped bar and the mopar bars are more of a 3"+ flat rail.

Re: Roof Rack

REI's 20% off Thule sale started today. The gear I need isn't available in stores around me, so I ordered it all online and expect delivery in one week.

The 4019 fit kit we need for WK2 is available now through their online store. Go to http://www.rei.com/product/772689 and, in the "Choose Your Color/Size" drop-down box, select 4019.

Thanks to Dougcjohn for letting us know these were coming on sale at REI. That's a win for me because, if anything doesn't work out, I can return it no questions asked. For example, I might decide I want a different length aero bar than the 47-inch I ordered.

Roof Rack

I went ahead and ordered the Thule racks from REI (and used the 20% discount) but found that the rods that they shipped had slots in the bottom that were not close enough together, so I couldn't get the footings close enough together to get the rack on the Jeep. I called REI, who said to call Thule, but instead I just returned the whole shipment. I don't see why you should have to make modifications to a product that is supposedly made for the W2K. Anybody find a rack (other than OEM) that actually works right of the box?

The fit guide on the Thule web site tells you to use the 53-inch bars, but that's wrong. The 47-inch bars fit perfectly on my WK2. I listed the part numbers here.

My Thule Kayak mounts work perfect with the mopar bars so i will stick with them for now. Just used my REI dividend and 20% on a hitch mounted bike rack...me likey!!
I've got the MOPAR bars installed. They're fine, but I'm glad I had the dealer install them. They said it was difficult to to so on the WK2 ( this was their first one). Afterward, I got tremendous wind whistling - turns out they installed the bars incorrectly. They replaced the bars, the rubber inserts are now in the correct positions...and no more wind noise. So far, so good!

Unfortunately my MOPAR ski rack no longer fits. I had to buy a new one ( now Thule).
Does anybody want a ski rack? In L.A. It fit my '02, '04, & '07.

It was a pain to install the rack, but got it done and didn't have to pay the dealer.
