Roof Racks

Hey everyone I'm looking at putting a roof rack on the new ride since Jeep decided to stop putting them on stock.....i guess the higher $46k pricetag couldn't cover the cost of this Anyways I was looking at thule but so far it looks like they don't have any rack systems that utilize the existing rails on the roof. Who makes the best rack that uses the existing roof rails or are the thules that good where it doesn't matter they are clamp on.
Thanks,
Dave

By far Garvin makes the best rack and they mount right to the factory rail. Here is a link to their website and my post about them.

Re: Roof Racks

Thule have a fit kit specially for the Wk2 it is the 4019. It fits to 753 feet and any cross bars you like. If you go to the thule website and click on fit my car you should find them.

Re: Roof Racks

Rocky Road makes a good looking and reasonably priced rack system. I believe Thule or Yakima crossbars could also be used with their roof rails, if one desired wider crossbars for any reason.

www.rocky-road.com

Part of the problem with the factory rack system, in my opinion, is that there is not enough space between crossbars for those of us who wish to carry larger (18'6") canoes or sea kayaks, or even the larger fiberglass boxes. At the very minimum, I would like to see at least the capability of a 48" spread between bars, rather than the factory's skimpy max of 28" or so. I believe this could be accomplished using the factory rail system, but so far i have seen nothing that approaches this spread distance. If anyone discovers such a system, please post the info for the rest of us. Thanks.

Ha! Just discovered Moose's thread on installing the custom 54" rails created by Rack Attack that provide a crossbar spread of 48" or more. This definitely looks like the only solution (although expensive) for those of us looking for a bigger bar spread. Thanks, Moose!

Molson- what's the size of the box on top of your jeep? Does it fit well?

Re: Roof Racks

Has anyone tried have the Rocky Road setup? I love the look, but I am concerned about wind noise.
