RRO Winch Mount Modifications

I've bought the RRO winch mount for my 2014 Overland. I am considering modifying the holes for the fairlead to be about an inch lower and mounting the fairlead directly to the winch bar. I believe this will allow me to still remove the front fascia and the fairlead should then be hidden with the front fascia on.

Can anyone that has fitted the RRO mount confirm if this could work or if there is any reason why it wouldn't?

Will lowering the fairlead an inch cause excessive strain on the winch rope?

Thanks,
Daniel

Re: RRO Winch Mount Modifications

I've installed the RRO winch mount and winch. I'm not sure what this will accomplish? It would be very difficult to lower the fair lead. The nuts the fair lead mounts to are welded into the plate that's welded to the entire mount.

Re: RRO Winch Mount Modifications

The goal would be to allow removal of the front lower fascia. On the 2014+ models, the fairlead is right on the seam of the removable fascia.

The fairlead mount does not have any nuts, they are just holes.

I have mounted the winch bar and it appears that lowering the holes about 20mm will allow use of the winch. The lower fascia can then go over the fascia completely hiding the winch and fairlead.

Re: RRO Winch Mount Modifications

I trimmed my lower facia to match the outline of the fair lead. I can remove my lower facia in 2 minutes as designed by the factory. When reinstalled, the facia tucks under the fair lead ever so slightly (1/16") and you can't even tell it's been trimmed. It was a lot easier than drilling/cutting steel.

Re: RRO Winch Mount Modifications

Keep trying...it took some effort. Held it on with some thick bearing grease

Re: RRO Winch Mount Modifications

I have a question regarding the control box. I have mounted this system on a 2014 and it all lined up great. However the only thing I can't figure out is how to cover the hole in the grill. Right now I have left the center part of the grill out so I can get to the box and lever but it really distracts from the front of the jeep. What all have you done?
