Re: Running boards

Funny thing, when I saw the warning in the manual, it didn't even occur to me that this might be a wiring harness/electrical thing. I was curious about the potential for the running boards to change the physical characteristics that might influence the sensors used to deploy the air bags. Perhaps with the boards installed you could take more of a hit before they deployed, or a perhaps make the vehicle more sensitive to deployment (since it could potentially absorb a little bit more impact).

Mind, I was considering a set of rock rails, and the set I saw (from RRO? I think?) didn't seem to mention anything about moving a wiring harness, looked like they just bolted in to some holes. And they looked pretty sturdy to boot.

As I thought more about it, I figured the airbags were more accelerometer based, though they could also have a crush sensor of some kind. An accelerometer based sensor wouldn't really care whether rails or running boards existed or not, the cabin was being influenced by significant G forces one way or the other.

But I also brought it up for those who simply may not have even seen the warning before.

I only had to take the harness down for the install on that side. The bracket just prevented me from getting to the bolts with my ratchet. Once I was done I bolted the harness back on. No big deal.

I was able to get to the bolts without having to take off the harness...YMV depending on how close the harness is to the bolts or size of the ratchet

Cool thanks.

Yeah have to figure the warning is because of wiring running down passenger side are air bag related and they don't want it messed with. Only other thing it might be in event of side impact they worry that after market running boards might slice thru wires but no idea how the mopar ones wouldn't too.

Yup, exactly. Normally they would have shipped a day or two after your order. How's it going now with your order? My ESD got pushed back again...

Last week I was told that they are supposed to ship this Wednesday, July 24th. I don't like the fact that they take your money when you order and then it takes a month before the order is supposed to be shipped!

Re: Running boards

^^yup, we are on the same page then... in terms of ship date and them taking our money a month in advance. Apparently some supply problem.

I talked to customer service rep, they assured me they are an A+ company and would take care of me. After that i got two follow up phone calls a week apart. So let's see what happens.

Got my running boards in today and got the driver's side installed tonight. Hope to get the other side installed tomorrow night.

I had to tape the washer to the socket with the nut in order to get the main braces, main nut installed.
