Running boards

Do you think anyone will produce a running board like the ones on the X4 4.8? Love the look of those but not sure how they would look with the chrome accents on the wk2

I think you'll find the QL Park Mode does the job just fine. My Fiance is pretty short too and she doesn't have any problem getting in or out. But an extra lower step won't hurt anything. Plus I just think the running boards look cool on the jeep, makes it more rugged looking.

Is it sad that I'm more interested in buying them for the looks rather than it helping someone like my grandma get into the vehicle easier? lol :D

they would use a $30 coupon plus 10% additional for 5 ppl. I need to get in touch with them to make sure it's not just on the DeeZee... in case anyone would want another style like Romik, or Ionic (similar to chunderboy setup)

Seems chunderboy got a great deal though with his ebay ones and local pick up

dont want to thread hijack and may create a feeler for group buy. looking forward to pics of install in this thread

I think I've settled on the Ionics, just waiting to see the install pics from chunderboy to confirm my decision. If I can get them for $230 by picking them up in Queens I'm gonna do that since I'm heading down to NYC in a few weeks. But if we can get them cheaper thru a group buy I'd be down for that.

PRESSSSURE. lol. I am going to do the shit out of them this weekend. Going to the rents to ride the FLSTF and do this so I have many o' hours to get this install. I did a dry run the weekend before (yea, during mothers day) and almost had my head chewed off bc of the time spent in the driveway. So, this Saturday seems more of an opportune time to make this happen.

When completed, its going to be a pic heavy thread so be forewarned..

^^yes those are the ones mwhited posted great pics of in this thread a couple pages back or so. Can't believe we are up to 15 pages now! good options out there now.

The winbo x5 style ones we originally saw posted over on Australia Ebay, but now they popped up stateside as well. I'd prolly go for the deezee over those. Even tho more $$, but these ones chunder is installing caught my eye. esp for the price if can do local pickup.

I suppose there is something to be said about being the guinea pig...lol.. So, let me first start by saying this DIY project wasn't terrible just took 2 times of trying and literally thinking though my options in terms of how to attack it.. So, after literally looking at the parts, then the instructions and finding my own way to do it, it cut the time in half.

First off, do yourself a favor and separate all the parts into piles and count them through. There is a bunch of EVERYTHING, so make sure its all there. Also, I found that to get to the main bolt (that mounts to the frame) a real pain in the ass, so to save time (actually a decent amount) thread the bolt and washer through the bracket to the mounting bracket that does into the frame, then slide it into the frame for tightening...

As a side note, I do think that the brackets in this unit are a little more sturdy than the x5 look a likes bc not only do they mount to the frame with the main bolt (perpendicular to the ground) but they mount on an additional part of the frame (parallel to the ground). Very sturdy. Also, the quality of the boards are solid and heavy too (well made imho).

Now for the funny part; the boards for the different automobile makers are the same width, but not the same length, so, as you can guess, they gave me the boards for an RX350 and not the Jeep (they are going to deliver the right ones to my house and take the wrong ones back). The mounting hardware is for my jeep, but not the most import part. But even with with that issue, the boards mount flush to the brackets where there is no daylight between the brackets and the boards (just slightly different mounting points). They sat on the brackets and the looks of it are great. I have a bunch of pics showing not only the "finished product" but also the separate mounting points and all the hardware. Let me know your thoughts.

Lastly, I might actually plastidip the chrome parts of the board to make them all black.

I just searched Winbo and they were on their site. I also saw them on eBay as well. I think they were under $300 shipped. They don't look like they mount as solid though from the pictures on eBay. Kind of what Chunderboy was saying above. I would have to see them in person before committing to them. It was shut in Brooklyn selling them. Might be the same guy as the others.

Just communicated with them over ebay. But, the warehouse does have a phone number (and obviously an address), but i worked out the price first before I got that stuff.

They do fit the 2014 (see below response from Winbo)

FYI, this will fit the 2014 Grand Cherokee as well but we are in the process of revising the instructions. In the 2014 models, there is a plastic wire harness in the passenger side that needs to be temporarily removed to install the brackets. It’s no big deal and I am sure some end users will figure this out, but then again there is always that one.

Have a good weekend.

Since this is my second attempt at putting them on (first one was interrupted by mothers day) i figure it took me 3 hours to do the job right. As for an above shot, that will take me a few days to get them bc of being parked in the garage in NYC. But I can tell you that they are 5 inches wide.

It would certainly help if they showed them on a jeep. I mean, how hard would that be? I am sure it would only help sell the product.

These steps looks like.

Can anyone comment in regards to the side steps doing a good job of deflecting debris from the front tires. The reason I ask is, I have the mopar splash guards and arent a huge fan of the way they look and am curious of I put side steps on, could that take the place of the front splash guard.

When I had a JK Unlimited I had no splash guards, but did have running boards and never really had a issue with rocks or anything on the vehicle. I realize the rear would be unprotected, but I would just deal with that.

I can't speak to these yet (haven't really gone over any loose rocks or anything like that) but my last rig had similar boards and never had any rocks hit the door etc. Plus, these are 5 inches wide and solid. I can report further once I hit the loose stuff.

I have the Mopar chrome tubes, they were dealer installed and fit very well. The tubes run level with the bottom of the underdoor panel. They have been on the JGC for a year, I have absolutely no complaints on them. They look as good as they did the day they were installed. I weigh around 250 and they handle my heavy carcass quite well.

The Mopar bars are very sturdy. The problem most people have, is the actual step pad is about 3" wide. That's OK for a pre-teen. The step pad should at least be as wide as the bars.

I ended up with the same ones as mwhited. He was right about the very vague instructions. It basically says "use these bolts somewhere on the jeep to mount the brackets". Its up to you to figure out where they are supposed to mount. I only unwrapped two brackets at first and didn't realize that the two that were still wrapped were different. It left me scratching my head for a minute until I figured that out. The front ones are different and I had the rears unwrapped. The first board I put on was good quality, but the second one was iffy. The chrome strip on the side was bent, the rubber strip along the chrome was loose and the holes in the bracket are off. The passenger side is able to go pretty close to the body. Only a small gap towards the rear. The drivers side rear won't allow it to get any closer though. It has a good 1/2" gap at the rear. I'm going to take the board off and enlarge the slot on the bracket. As far as the chrome strip being bent up, I'm just going to live with it. Its bound to happen anyway, and what can I expect for $295 to the front door.
