Re: Romik Running Boards

Hey Guys/Gals,

When I received my first set of Romik's I noticed a quarter sized ding in one of the boards. The company quickly sent out a new set and UPS picked up the "damaged" ones. A few days later, UPS dropped off the original set at my house. After much back and forth with UPS and the retailer, the original set are still at my house (now over two months).

I really like these boards but certainly don't need two sets. If anyone in the PA/NJ/NY area is interested, I would be willing to sell them for a great deal. You would need to buy the installation hardware and extenders from Romik but otherwise these are brand new. Below are the pics on my Jeep, please PM/Reply if interested. Here is a little more about the boards as well:

Re: Running boards

Ok, ordered the mopar black side steps. They came in yesterday.

Attempted to install today, only got one side done.

Issues:

1. Instructions are vague at best. They give u new plastic rivets but nowhere in the instructions does it say to remove the side trim, only the one bolt at the back end. Well for most installs you will have to remove the trim so you can torque the nuts on the bracket bolts. The problem is the inserted bracket spins inside the frame and the trim prevents you from grabbing the bolt to stop the spin. Removing trim requires removing both wheels so u drill out the old rivets. Fine, but a pain.

2. If u do remove trim, put back on before installing the step.

3. One of my threaded inserts on the step stripped out and just spun on step. Great!! It was on the end, so removed end cap and grabbed with long pliers. Still couldn't get enough torque, so got a thinner bolt and jury rigged a fix.

4. Also in instructions it looks like u should remove all the 6 rubber grommets on each side, but u only need to remove 3 and only the rear one requires clearing out insulation to insert braket plate.

5. Back the issue #1. If u do remove the side trim, u will need a plastic rivet gun the re-install the trim and rivets. There is a pic of one in the instructions, I already had one, none in kit. Also, they give u 6 rivets per side, but that only covers the vitro rivets there are 3 more per side, 2 in the front wheel well and 1 in the back. Get a supply of the same size if u half buy the rivet gun.

Good luck, the other side tomorrow.

That's what they are. I was looking in one of my tool boxes the other day and say these rubber grommets, new they were familiar for some reason but couldn't recall.

There is a video I posted earlier that shows how to install with all of the little tricks they don;t bother to tell you in instructions. Different bars but they are all the same concept and fitting style.

Re: Running boards

From eBay, they are available under several brands including the Spider Auto ones I posted the video about.
Cost was about $350 Aus,

Re: Running boards

I have the Romik tube side steps; like them a lot. Challenges with delivery however (waited almost 4 months)! I have posted pictures on another thread.

My sentiments exactly! lol! I want running boards on my Summit, but I am clueless as to why I can't find any for a Summit? Is there some underside differences between trim levels? I feel bad for my kids when they try to get up into the vehicle, b/c I never remember to lower the car once I park it! lol!

Re: Running boards

I don't own a summit but I can't see how the undercarriage would be that different. All that requires for the installation of oem steps are the pre-cut holes. Look underneath and see. They'll likely have some rubber plugs to keep dirt from getting in there, but you pop those out and you're good to go. Spacing between holes would prob be the next thing to worry about but I know my JGC had several holes on each side, but you only need 3.
