Running boards

I have a 2014 4x4 black altitude and I am really on the fence regarding adding running boards. I don't need them for ANY practical purpose other than aesthetics. Just looking for opinions on running boards and possible brands that are preferred. If I went with them I would go black for obvious reasons:)

Thanks everyone.

We have black round side steps with flat gripped sections to step on. It is hard to exit the vehicle without rubbing the back of your legs on the steps and getting road grime on your legs . Otherwise we like them.

Yes. There's small trick to getting the bolts started with the nuts & washers (ask once you have the product in hand and can see it), but it's otherwise a simple afternoon job with a couple rachets and a sawzall.

Just kidding about the sawzall :)

I checked my email and saw Sawzall and about dropped my phone. Good one!
I may get a set of these, been reading a lot about them on the is forum. I had the mopar nerf bars on my 11". They looked good but absolutely useless IMO.

My wife loves the Ionic boards on her Limited. She's 5 ft. and says she was getting to old to hike her cheek up high enough to get started and then drag herself in by pulling on the steering wheel. The Ionics are sturdy, have plenty of step room, and don't hang too low.

Out of curiosity, what's the weight limit? I've seen plenty of running boards leaning down, looking horrible.

I go about 260 and they don't budge when I step up on them.

Thanks for the replies and the pictures posted. I have decided to go with the Ionic running boards that our forum member is selling and will post pics once installed along with the Overland honeycomb black grille. I think that will complete the look for the Altitude for me. So far it's been an amazing car. It really stands out and gets a lot of attention. I do think the chrome siding is a bit baffling and while it doesn't look bad by any means, black would just make this car look sinister! With the ionic running boards, since the side is silver, I think it will compliment the little chrome that is left on the car. The only thing left is to debate tinting the front driver and passenger windows but in Michigan...that is a big question mark.

Here's a picture of what the running boards looked like on my 2014 Overland...with 35% tint on the front windows.

Yes, I'm 6'5" and even I will still use the board to step up and over the seat instead of sliding across it.

With the side steps, you are coming from further out, and need to clear them. It really does make a difference on how you can get into the car.

I have the black Mopar steps. Even though they look much better than running boards, and are solid like a rock, I would never buy them again. The step is way too narrow for even small-footed adults. Our driver's side bolster is also starting to wear -- due to "sliding" out of the seat. It's nearly impossible to step on the bar on your way out. If we keep the Jeep, I'm thinking of replacing them with running boards. Seat covers are an eyesore -- unless you buy the real expensive ones.

$200 shipped to NY please? ;)

I use the tubular running boards because my wife is quite short (4ft. 11ins) and she needs them as an aid to step into the GC. I'm tall and don't have that problem but they are handy when I wash or polish the roof of the vehicle. Other than that, they just look cool.
