Saddle Interior durability, wear and general impression

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland. I am looking for a Red one with the adaptive cruise and warning package. I had always planned on getting the Black interior but that exact combo has been elusive. I found one that is Red with adaptive cruise and saddle leather.

What has people's overall experience been with the Saddle leather, my concern is whether it is cleans up well, is durable and easy to maintain. Looking for some opinions in terms of the saddle vs black.

Bill

Why don't you order what you want, unless you are not able to wait for it?

I don't have an issue with ordering. While black is what I had in mind, I am considering whether saddle might be an equally attractive option

Re: Saddle Interior durability, wear and general impression

From what I've read there is no difference as far as durability, quality, and maintenance. There have been some reports of saddle streaking which was corrected under warranty. Saddle may show wear and tear more easily, as with any lighter color.

Style is subjective.

Re: Saddle Interior durability, wear and general impression

I have a Red Overland with Saddle/Black interior. I have had no problems with the saddle, although others have. It does appear that those problem were covered under warranty.

Having said that, I am somewhat underwhelmed by the general quality/feel of the leather interior of this vehicle. If I had been thinking in that direction (and willing to go through the labor again), I would have purchased a Limited with the Pano-roof and installed a Katzkin interior in the color of my choosing. My dealership originally wanted to know why I didn't just by a Limited instead of the Overland. I told them it was because of the Saddle interior.

I don't so much regret my choice as much as I think "what if".... I installed a Katzkin interior in the previous vehicle and loved it.

Also, are you just in general underwhelmed by leather and would have been happier with black or some other factory interior or just think that Chrysler's leather options are mediocre? Looks like you have the identical car that I am talking to the dealer about. How do you like your Jeep?

Katzkin is an OEM and aftermarket manufacturer of leather seat skins (not just covers). Here is another thread showing a Jeep WK2 with a Katzkin interior.

After having a Katzkin leather seating upgrade in my last vehicle, I got used to the more luxurious, softer, and thicker leather seating. The Chryco leather seems much thinner, stiffer, and easier to damage. The leather on the steering wheel and shift knob is paper-thin.

While I like the wood interior of the Overland, there are aftermarket suppliers of wood inserts and partial wood steering wheels. I don't know about integrating a heating element into the wheel....

I just didn't want to have to keep modifying this vehicle (unlike my last), so in the end, the factory equipment will have to suffice.

Re: Saddle Interior durability, wear and general impression

I have no issues with my saddle interior... My whole Overland has been 100%.

your concerns are valid, but i just went with the saddle also - you only live once, get what you want, don't compromise!
