Scratch on dashboard

I bought a brand new HA about a month ago. I noticed within a few days that there was a small scratch on the dashboard right where the speed is displayed. It didn't bother me at first and I chalked it up something minor, but now it bugs me to death. Especially at night when its more noticeable right across the speed display.

I was wondering if any of you had a solution for getting rid of it, maybe buffing it out? Or is it worth taking to the dealer to see if they can fix it (i have the maxcare).

Re: Scratch on dashboard

You could try polishing it out with some plastic polish or just order a new lens for the cluster. I'd try and see if the dealer will do something for you first.

I agree with the comment above. I would take it to the dealer and make them replace the lens. It sounds like a "dealer installed defect." I suspect the cluster lens scratches very easily and a wipe down with a dirty towel by the people dealers allow to clean the cars these days could easily leave a good scratch.

Re: Scratch on dashboard

I found the plastic screen on the gauge cluster very easy to scratch, I lightly wiped it with a clean microfibre towel to get the dust off and it left a scratch across the bottom.

I haven't tried buffing the scratch out as its only visible when the sun hits it
but if you do have luck with it please post what you did/used.

Good luck!

See if you can get the dealer to warranty it as a factory defect. Maxcare does not cover trim but the factory 3/36 does..also, lenses are not sold separate (whole cluster) and you will have difficulty getting a true scratch out. Don't delay, get it noted on service record for best chance of warranty fix. FCA is pretty good about defects but a scratch is easily ruled to be customer done so sing the "didn't notice at pickup" tune.

Going forward, after fix, the only thing that should ever be used on it is something like Plexus (motorcycle polycarb windscreens) with a microfiber...Plexus really is the schnitz for any clear/shiny plastic....it's awesome for the black roof pillar covers on the outside and headlamp/other lense covers.

If they won't cover this and you are left to buff out then use a multi-stage product like Novus scratch remover/polish...Plexus is for regular cleaning and getting out fine scratches like when you have a brain cramp and use a cotton/paper towel to clean...

..just my 20 cents...good luck

If brand new and you even think it was there at delivery, I would certainly approach the dealer in a very polite manner and ask them if they can help you.

Even if they don't replace it, they probably have detailers who could buff it out with a chamois and optical grade rouge and tin oxide so it has no visible imperfections.

You might be able to do it yourself with one of those Mothers headlight kits, but unless you are a lapidary expert on plastics, suggest a detailer recommended by a local body shop or dealer. You don't want to make it worse, and the supplies come in large batches so you might spend more money them than a detailer would charge.

Re: Scratch on dashboard

How about my 1yr old at the time marked up the plastic cluster with a cheap crayon, the kind you get at restaurants for children to color! I don't recall what i did but its not visible. I don't recall seeing it after i wiped it with water and damp wipe. Nothing special, i know it wasn't a scratch but just thought id share..

I would definitely go to dealer and see what they can do, if nothing is done just report them to your local attorney general. That may or may not do anything, so if that don't work look into purchasing the cluster at a reasonable cost. IMHO.
